Shree Ranbireshwar Temple — Attraction in Jammu and Kashmir

Ranbireshwar temple is situated on Shalimar road in front of Jammu-Kashmir civil secretariat in Jammu city. Ranbireshwar temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is one of the oldest temples in the Jammu city. It was built by Maharaja Ranbir Singh in 1883. Later on the temple was named after him. The temple is believed to be the biggest temple of Lord Shiva in north India. The temple is one of the main attractions of the Jammu city. One of the features of the temple is that it is built on first floor and is situated at a big height from the road surface. The devotees have to take stairs to reach to the temple. The main attraction of the temple is the idol and Shivlinga of Lord Shiva.

The idol of Lord Shiva is very beautiful and is considered to be unique as it is not present anywhere else. The Shivlinga is 8 feet high and is made from single black stone. It was built by the rulers of Dogra dynasty. This Shivlinga is the biggest in north India. There are 12 more Shivlingas in the temple which are made of crystal. These Shivalingas are 18inches high and 12 inches wide. There is a slab inside the temple on the right and left side which has around 1.25 lakhs Shivalingas brought from Narmada river. There are also idols of Lord Ganesha, Kartikeya and Nandi in the temple. The idol of nandi is made of brass and weighs around 1000 kg.

All the festivals are celebrated in this temple. The festival of MahaShivratri is celebrated at grand level.

ंदिर शालीमार रोड, जम्मू-कश्मीर सिविल सचिवालय के सामने, जम्मू शहर, जम्मू-कश्मीर में स्थित है। रणवीरेश्वर मंदिर भगवान शिव को समर्पित है। यह मंदिर जम्मू शहर का एक बहुत प्राचीन मंदिर है। रणवीरेश्वर मंदिर का निर्माण सन् 1883 में महाराजा रणबीर सिंह ने करवाया था। बाद में इस मंदिर का नाम महाराजा रणबीर सिंह के नाम रखा गया था।

ऐसा माना जाता है कि यह मंदिर उत्तर भारत में भगवान शिव का सबसे बड़ा मंदिर है। यह मंदिर जम्मू शहर का मुख्य आकर्षण है। मंदिर की एक विशेषता यह भी है कि यह मंदिर प्रथम तल पर स्थित है अर्थात् सड़क से काफी ऊँचाई पर स्थित है जहां सीढीयों द्वारा जाया जाता है।

रणवीरेश्वर मंदिर का मुख्य आकर्षण मंदिर में भगवान शिव की प्रतिमा और भगवान शिव का शिव लिंग है। भगवान शिव की प्रतिमा बहुत सुन्दर है ऐसी प्रतिमा शायद ही किसी ओर मंदिर में हो और भगवान शिव का शिव लिंग जिसकी ऊँचाई 8 फुट व काले रंग के एक ही पत्थर से बनाया गया है जोकि उत्तर भारत में सबसे बड़ा शिव लिंग है। यह शिव लिंग डोगरा शासको तहत बनाया गया था। मंदिर में 12 ओर शिव लिंग है जोकि क्रिस्टल से बनाये गये है और जिनकी ऊँचाई लगभग 18’’ और चैड़ाई 12’’ है। मंदिर के अन्दर दायें व बायें तरफ पत्थर की एक स्लैब है जिसमें छोटे-छोटे लगभग 1.25 लाख शिव लिंग है जिनको नर्मदा नदी से लाया गया था। मंदिर में भगवान गणेश, कार्तिकेय और नंदी बैल की बड़ी प्रतिमा है। नंदी बैल की प्रतिमा पीतल से बनी है जिसका वज़न लगभग 1000 किलोग्राम है।
