Jamnagar is home to one of the most under hyped temples in Gujarat, considering its significance. Jamnagar is home to many such temples and so the name for the city: Chhoti Kaashi. Architecturally, the Balahanuman Temple is great marvel will not send any designers running for cameras. It has a simple layout but it’s this very simplicity that makes it engaging, without any commercial trappings seen in some of the popular temples. With a continuous chanting of the Ram Dhun for over 57 years now, since 1964, it has also an entry in The Guinness Book of Records, with the Ram Dhun (“Shree Ram Jaya Ram Jay Jay Ram”) being chanted continually for 24 hours, seven days a week without break, all these years. At night, one can hear the chants several kilometres away and that soothing and pleasing to the ears. Generally open for 24 hours, it has now restricted timings. The good part of this Mandir is that it’s clean and none of the sadhus/vendors pester you. The semi-open plan makes it ideal for a visit as it’s well ventilated. The straightforward exterior is more than compensated by its location near The Lakota Talav and the museum which is one of the most serene places in Jamnagar. The lake is always decked up like a “dulhan” and at night, the ambience can be heady and mesmerising. There is nothing more satisfying post a good Darshan than to stroll in the clean paths that surround the temple.
