15.02.2024: Situation remains unchanged. Infact the park looks more neglected than ever. The ditches dug months back remain open with some dumped fencing gathering rust around the area where the annual flower show is held. Now more ditches are being dug around the park right where the children play areas are, with plastic pipes dumped next to them. When this job will get completed is anyone's guess.
The amount of dried leaves which cover the park is enough to bury the Mangalore City Corporation and its corrupt coterie six feet under.
At 8.00 PM (closing time) the security guard locks the main gate without making any announcements asking visitors to leave, leaving the park wide open to nefarious activities. The turnstiles are left unlocked. Only the gods can save us from wilful neglect and corruption.
2024: If there is a more neglected park in India than it is Kadri Park. I have mentioned this in other media also and now I am going to mention this here as well. The whole park is covered with dried decaying leaves, dead/ fallen trees. Dead tree branches dangling dangerously over the walking path. The area around the giant national flag/ fountains is so dirty, it is a insult to it.
In several areas some digging work has happened leading to uneven, broken paving at the main entrance which is dangerous to walk on, especially for senior citizens who come there in large numbers. The slightest inattention can cause a serious incident. The lighting inside the park has also fallen pray to this decay, with fused bulbs never being replaced, leading to dark areas on the walking path.
The children's train is another joke, as you will pay to take a trip through the dead and decaying trees and a smelly tunnel, where people urinate in absence of public toilets in the park.
The beautification work outside the park has also come to nought, as the road side vendors have been allowed to set up their stalls right through the facelifted section on which crores of taxpayers money has been wasted. The area is now as dirty as it was earlier. The shops which were meant to be occupied by these vendors have been priced out of their reach, and are rotting away, locked up forever.
The Kadri Park is a monument to the corruption and inefficiency of the Mangalore City...
