Read moreI recently visited Pilikula Nisargadhama in Mangalore, and it was an amazing day exploring nature, culture, wildlife, and science all in one place. Pilikula is one of the top tourist attractions in Mangalore, perfect for families, kids, and anyone who enjoys eco-tourism. Here’s a breakdown of my experience:
Pilikula Biological Park (Mangalore Zoo)
The Mangalore Zoo inside Pilikula is one of the best-maintained biological parks in Karnataka. It houses a wide range of animals including tigers, lions, leopards, elephants, deer, reptiles, and colorful bird species. What I liked most was that the enclosures are spacious and designed to resemble natural habitats. It’s educational, especially for children, with informative boards about wildlife and conservation.
Guthu Mane – Kantara Shooting Home
A special highlight of the trip was visiting the traditional Guthu Mane (Heritage House), which was also featured in the famous movie Kantara. The house reflects the architectural beauty and cultural richness of the Tuluva heritage. Walking inside gave a sense of history, with traditional wooden carvings and old-style design. It’s a must-visit for movie lovers and culture enthusiasts.
Pilikula Regional Science Centre
The Science Park is another gem inside Pilikula. With interactive exhibits, 3D shows, and fun science experiments, it’s both entertaining and educational. Kids especially enjoy the hands-on models and outdoor science installations. It’s a great spot for families to spend time while learning.
Overall Ambience & Facilities
The entire Pilikula Nisargadhama campus is spread over a vast area with greenery, lakes, and eco-friendly surroundings. There are resting spots, clean washrooms, and food stalls, making it convenient for visitors. The place is well-maintained and gives a perfect mix of nature, culture, and knowledge
Pilikula is truly an all-in-one tourist destination in Mangalore – from the zoo for wildlife lovers, the Guthu Mane for cultural explorers, and the Science Park for curious minds. Whether you are a family, student group, or traveler, Pilikula offers something unique for everyone.

Spacious and Well-Maintained One of the first things we noticed was the zoo's spacious layout. My children were especially thrilled to see the leopard and white peacock in full display. The enclosures are well-maintained, allowing visitors to observe the animals closely while ensuring their safety and comfort.
Educational Value What stood out was the educational aspect of the zoo. Informative boards near each enclosure provide interesting facts about the animals, making the visit both fun and learning-oriented. The staff members were friendly and willing to answer questions, which was a bonus.
Kid-Friendly Features For families with children, Pilikula is an excellent choice. The walking paths are stroller-friendly, and there are plenty of spots to rest. The zoo also has a small refreshment area where we enjoyed snacks while taking a break.
