This temple was constructed in 12th century. Sri Ramanujacharya arrived to this town (Melukote) and glorified the temple even more. According to the legend this temple was set up and administered in such a way that there is no discrimination among people with respect to caste, color, rich or poor. This is the principle behind the popularity of this temple which adds to the blessings we get from the diety himself Sri Cheluvanarayana Swamy. The temple has a beautiful architecture with immense details to the structure. It is approximately 3 hours away from Bangalore. Please plan the travel time accordingly to manage the breakfast. Around kunigal there are chain of restaurants for breakfast. The temple is build around mountains so expect a hot temperature. There is another famous temple called Sri Yoga Narasimha temple nearby which is a must visit. The vehicles can go upto half a way and from there you will have to climb the stairs which takes approximately 15 mins. There is a pushkarni as well which is huge and a must visit. The temple queue system could be improved for faster Darshan. For lunch there are not so good options in melukkte town. The diety himself is very charming to look at. He seems to be at peace. Overall a very good pilgrimage spot.
