I constantly look at the various food vlogs by Mr Kripal and visit those places based on his reviews and recommendations. One such place was Subbanna mess in Melkote. A totally disappointing and pathetic place which made me to write this review. Subbanna mess can rightly be called as Gabbanna mess. Will list all my experience which made us to come to this conclusion.
We went to this place around 12.45 for lunch in Dec 2024 The place was totally empty except for a couple which were sitting in one corner. However, there were about 10-15 servers all standing at the entrance.
As soon as we went, we ordered for 2 lunch and one plate puliyogare, sakkare Pongal, and curd rice. They took the order and all of those waiters disappeared. After about 10 minutes they put plantain leaf and again disappeared. A guy they comes with one plate puliyogare and sakkare Pongal and says that the curd rice is over. Remember that it is still 12.45 and curd rice is already over! Still there is no sight of the lunch which should have been served by now as it exactly lunch time.
As per a notice on the entrance door (hot water available), we requested hot water to drink - even that was not there. After a long wait they served three side dishes and again no sign of anything coming for lunch. Then comes a single chapati and a stale papad which has become soft for each meal. We could not even break it and was like rubber. Asked them to give another one, but no response. Asked them to sever Majjige huli once again - it seems that itis served only once. For the meals of Rs. 140, in a plate they give rice and a small portion of puliyogare and sakkare pongal. That sakkare pongal was nothing more than a small spoon, that's all (we can hardly get the taste of it)!! After much ask and wait, they served sambar which did not have one vegetable also, on much searching. We could differentiate sambar and rasam just by the consistency - really bad.
By then some more customers come in, everyone had the same experience. I think everyone comes here just once. Since it is a moving crowd, somehow he is getting business every single day. Even the other people were complaining on the slow service, food taste, quantity, papad, etc. Then suddenly both the owner brothers make an entry. They are so rude and bossy and act as though they are serving food for free. When people complained about slow service the owner is shouting at the customers itself - this is not some marriage hall you have to wait. This only shows the audacity, bad behaviour, and don't care attitude. For them seving customers is not primary. We have to just sit and eat whatever they serve like beggars, after giving money. Here customer is just a slave! The meal ends with just a saltless watery buttermilk, no curd as well.
We travel extensively and eaten in the smallest to the biggest restaurants. We have not had this kind of experience anywhere. They do not know the meaning of hospitality and customer service at all. Everything is horrible - cleanliness, food quantity and quality, taste, hospitality, service, waiting time. The people who own the place are worst. Even when we complained about the above, they showed a don't care attitude. Very annoying behaviour. Hope this genuine review helps a lot of people. Don't fall prey to all fake reviews. Mr Kripal, we want you to please recommend good places only and that way maintain the quality of your Food Lovers TV. Please don't support such arrogant people and...
Read moreAt Melkote near Cheluvanarayanaswamy Temple. Located on the Bylanes while going to the Temple. Another Annapoorneshwari Mess is beside Subbanna Mess. The Road in front of the Mess is narrow and can get blocked. Subbanna Mess may possibly be a 100 years old and the mess has not changed much. Do not believe in all the vlogs. Wash Basin is located on the road and on the opposite side of the hotel entrance. Wash rooms are also around there. Entrance to the hotel is a Shop selling food items. A pathway beside the Shop leads to the mess which is a small room with possibly 2 rows of S.S Tables and Plastic Chairs, possibly when there is a rush they have tables on the outside also. Ambience of the mess may not be acceptable to a lot of people. Inside the room there are a few wall mount fans and some do not work, so expect it to be hot in there. No Menu Card is available to know the dishes being served. From the vlogs came to know that their Breakfast dishes and Veg Meals is good. We went around the lunch time and only Masala Dosa was there and we took Masala Dosa which was good, but the red chutney given was not so great. Later we had Lunch after having Dosas. Do not know what they mean by Veg Special means We were given an Average Limited Meals having Papad, Pickle, 2 Dry Curries, 2 Wet Curries which is served on a Banana leaf. Then you get a S.S Plate containing 1 half cooked Chapati, Little Puliyogre, little Sweet and a small portion of Rice. Later you are served Sambar, Rasam & Buttermilk, No Curd is Provided. The cost for the Food is more expensive than the Full Andhra Veg Meals available in Bengaluru or Mysore. Also be careful for some of the dishes could make you sick like it did to my family members. Puliyogre is average and nothing as being told in the vlogs, We tasted the Sakkare Pongal which was nice and the Jaggery Pongal which was just OK. Basically it is an overhyped mess with average food and it is expensive. The dishes being served, the Quality, Service and Ambience of the mess may not be...
