Unkal Lake is a scenic lake and garden complex in the city of Hubli (Hubballi). The lake was constructed in 1893 by the renowned engineer Sir M. Visvesvaraya and is source of drinking water for Hubli-Dharwad twin cities.
I visited it on a Thursday afternoon. But I found it poorly maintained. There is a boating facility which was not working.
There are a few high viewing points. When I went up in one a staff came running and told me to get down as the floor is rusted and corroded and it can collapse.
Still surrounding the lake are gardens, green spaces, seating (benches), walking paths, sunshades, etc., making it good for leisurely strolls, picnics, relaxing.
