Temple timings:- Morning 05:00 AM - 11:00 AM and evening 05:00 PM - 11:00 PM One of the few shrines to Goddess Saraswathy in India and Kerala is the Dhakshina Mookambika Temple, also known as the Saraswathy Temple. In Kerala’s Ernakulam District, North Paruvur is where the temple is located. One of the few Saraswathi temples in Kerala, dedicated to the goddess of learning and the arts, is situated in the middle of a lotus pond. The tranquil, joyous occasions, and spiritual significance of Dhakshina Mookambika Temple are well-known. Bala Parameswari, the daughter of Lalitha Parameswari, is the presiding deity in the sanctum sanctorum of the Dhakshina Mookambika Temple in N.Paravur. Saraswathi Devi is the goddess of wisdom. The temple enjoys the same respect as the Mookambika Temple in Mangalore’s Kollur. Temple History:- The ruler of Paravur, Pravur Thampuran, was a devoted follower of Mookambika. He used to pay respects to the deity by going to the Kollur temple in Mangalore each year. But as he grew older and his health deteriorated, he was unable to make the exhausting trip to Kollur. In a dream, the goddess visited the grieving devotee and gave him the go-ahead to erect her idol close to his home so he could see her every day. She gave Thampuran instructions, and he built a temple in Paravur and placed the Goddess there. Standing in the centre of a revered lotus pool is the “Srikovil.” The temple, which is located in the middle of a lotus pond, eventually earned the name dakshina Mookambika Offerings to the Deity:- -Sree Vidya Manthra Pushpanjali -Saraswathi Pooja -Thrimaduram -Chuttuvilakku -Mookambika Kashyam

Loved it. My wish for many decades to visit the Temple ultimately happened on 8th Jan, 2023 for it was the place my grand-ma and Maa had spent their days in their early lives. Mookambikai, the Presiding Deity is actually Saeaswathi. Typical Kerala styled Temple with exception of the moola-murthi, unlike the usual Bhagavathi posture in other Kerala temples. Here, Devi is in sitting posture holding in Her hands, the Veena and playing. Sanctum sanctorum is located on a pond like base with blooming lillies around and a well. Daily aksharabhyasams are happening as also chorunnal. Students writing exams keep their pen/pencil at Her feet with prayers held. Subrahmanya, Veerabhadra, Vissnu and Hanuman sannadhis are located around the four corners of the outer prakara. Outside the many entrance,a big auditorium is there where musical and cultural programs are held during Navarathri, Annual Uksavams and on other festive occasions. A must see Temple with Divine experience.

According to legends, Thampuran (ruler) of Paravur was a great devotee of Goddess Mookambika. He used to visit the Kollur temple in Mangalore every year to pay homage to the goddess. When he became old, his health worsened and he could no longer undertake the long journey to Kollur. The goddess appeared to the sad devotee in a dream and ordered him to build her idol near his palace so that he can have daily darshan of her. Thampuran followed her instructions, built a temple at Paravur and installed the Goddess. The kovil inside is beautifully surrounded by pond which have Lilly.
