Punnamada lake is an extension of Vembanad lake. Famous Nehru Trophy Boat Race is conducted here on second Saturday of August every year (just before Onam). The places round the lake will be crowded during the race. There are many resorts all around the lake. The main entertainment here is the boat ride. The lake consists of a lot of houseboat facilities with varied budget. You can hire a house boat or a Shikara (small boats- around 2400/per boat for 3 hours irrespective to number of persons) or travel in a government ferry (Rs 50 for one point to another) for moving around the lake. Houseboats usually starts at 13:00 hrs and checkout time next day is usually morning 10:00 hrs.
