Sree Rama Swami Temple is located in Thiruvangad, which is around 4 km from Thalassery. It is believed that a dip in chira, the temple tank, washes away all sins. According to the Kerala Mahatmyam, the shrine was constructed by Lord Parasurama, one of the incarnations of Lord Vishnu. A story associated with the temple states that Lord Rama killed Khara, Thrisiras and Dooshana, along with fourteen thousand other demons at this site. Another popular belief is that Goddess Sita Devi hid herself in the nearby cave, which was guarded by Lakshmana. The site was later named as Pookinassery. It is constructed in the typical Hindu architectural style and the walls and ceilings are adorned with sculptures engraved in wood. The twenty beautifully carved structures on the ceilings of the sanctum represent episodes from Kirathararjuneeyam, the story of Arjuna's meeting with Lord Shiva. The shrine has a Namaskara Mandapam and a wooden canopy over the ceiling that has 44 images of the Devi in different forms. The topmost panel of the temple depicts heads of elephants and scenes from the Ramayana, .Yearly festivals last for 7 days with lots of elephants and panjavadyams. The annual festival of temple commences on Vishu day in Medam (April–May) and lasts for seven days.

Sree Ramaswamy Temple is a famous temple dedicated to Lord Rama located at Thiruvangad near Thalasserry in the Kannur district of Kerala. It is a unique temple because of its legendary and historical significance. It is one of the four famous Sree Rama shrines in the state. The deity in this temple is known as Thiruvangad Perumal. The temple has a copper-plated sree kovil. The architecture of this temple is outstanding with eye-catching wood work. The sanctum sanctorum and the adjoining areas are true examples of the exquisite temple architecture of Kerala. Even the wood work of this pilgrim center is based on the poetic descriptions of Ramayana, the great Hindu epic. The idol of the Thiruvangadu Sree Rama Temple is believed to be installed by Lord Parasurama, the great saint. Some legends say that it was installed by Swetha Muni, a disciple of saint Agastya. The annual festival, Vishy Mahotsavam of this temple lasts for 8 days

For me and my family from Kollam, the visit to this temple on 26/01/24 morning was an awesome and divine experience. We reached around 11:30 and when we reached inside, the divinely reverberating chenda melam by a team of three artists was going on. It added up to our mood. There were around 12-15 people inside and the temple doors opened and a smiling Srirama graced us , beautifully decorated with a golden crown and dressed in dhoti angavastram... Marvellous and divine. The neipayasam prasadam was so tasty and sumptuous for Rs. 60. The two shiva temples outside this temple was also very serene.
