Extremely Disappointing Experience at MRA Restaurant & Bakery, Thalassery
I recently visited MRA Restaurant & Bakery in Thalassery, hoping for a pleasant dining experience, but unfortunately, it turned out to be one of the worst I have encountered.
Service: Unacceptable
The service was appalling. Upon arrival, we were ignored for an extended period before being seated. The staff appeared disinterested and uncooperative. Despite multiple requests for basic items like water and condiments, they were either ignored or provided after a long wait. The waitstaff seemed overwhelmed and untrained, leading to a chaotic and frustrating dining experience.
Food Quality: Subpar and Unhygienic
The food quality was equally disappointing. We ordered a variety of dishes, including biryani, chicken mandi, and various snacks. To our dismay, the biryani was bland and lacked the rich flavors one would expect. The chicken in the mandi was overcooked and dry, and the snacks were stale, indicating they had been sitting out for too long. Additionally, we found a thread used to tie mint and coriander leaves in our biryani, which is a serious hygiene concern.
Hygiene Standards: Concerning
The hygiene standards were far from acceptable. The dining area appeared unclean, with visible stains on tables and chairs. The restrooms were in poor condition, lacking basic cleanliness and maintenance. This lack of attention to cleanliness raises serious concerns about the overall hygiene practices of the establishment.
Management: Unresponsive and Unprofessional
When we brought these issues to the attention of the management, they were dismissive and unhelpful. They offered no apologies or solutions, further exacerbating our frustration. The lack of professionalism and customer care was evident and left a lasting negative impression.
Conclusion: Avoid at All Costs
In conclusion, MRA Restaurant & Bakery in Thalassery failed to meet even the most basic expectations of service, food quality, and hygiene. The combination of poor service, subpar food, and unprofessional management makes it a place I would strongly advise others to avoid. There are numerous other dining options in Thalassery that offer a far superior experience. I will not be returning to MRA Restaurant & Bakery and cannot recommend it to anyone seeking a quality...
Read moreVisited MRA for lunch around 2 PM. We were looking forward to a nice meal but soon found out they had no biryani, which was a bit of a letdown. Okay, fair enough. We waited another 10 minutes for the table to be cleaned. Mind you, it wasn’t even that busy (Chandravilasam chettan can do it in a minute), and we were seated next to a random guy because no empty tables.
My vegetarian friend and I ordered appam, green peas curry, and tea. The tea finally arrived after 10 minutes, and we thought, "Okay, at least it’s coming." But then, we waited a full 15-20 more minutes for the appam and curry, which felt like an eternity. Total 25 minutes for a basic dish was just too much.
Now, let's talk about that "green peas curry" — it was honestly a joke. Green peas that were barely cooked, leaving a sour, unfinished flavor dumped into a sad, bland semi-thick gravy and served for ₹150?! This isn’t just underwhelming; it feels like a CRIME!!. For the price, I expect something decent, not undercooked peas mixed into a gravy you’d throw together at the last minute. And for the record, this isn’t a "chef’s special" that takes forever to prepare; It's a simple curry that any hotel in Thalassery would serve decently.
To top it off, the staff was straight-up rude. I have no issue with Hindi-speaking staff, but when they serve your food with an attitude and mutter things feels disrespectful. My friend looked at the waiter in disappointment over the time they took (honestly, we didn't say a word!), and his response, in Hindi, was, 'Don’t give me that look, this dish takes time' — said with complete arrogance.
As someone born and raised in Thalassery, I know what good appam and green peas curry should taste like, and this wasn’t it. There are plenty of local places that serve much better food for a fraction of the price, and they don’t make you wait 25 minutes for a sad dish. This isn’t an airport lounge or a 5-star experience - it’s just overhyped mediocrity.
Oh, and the guy sitting next to us? The weaiter took his order with us , but the poor guy waited over 20 minutes just for a lemon juice!!!. Can you imagine? This kind of service wouldn’t fly anywhere in Kannur except maybe this same MRA at the railway station.
MRA, you need to step up your game — better food, better service, and at least some respect for...
Read moreI am from Chennai. I visited MRA A/c Restaurant, with my family, by 7.00 pm on 01.07.2024. We ordered Pav Bhaji and Pani Poori for snacks. Both dishes were tasty. The Lemon tea and Chai were also excellent.
While having snacks, my wedding ring had fallen off from my finger and it went unnoticed. We left the restaurant by 7.30 pm. I realised the next day morning (02.07.2024 that my ring was missing and was shocked. I tried to recollect where it would have fallen and then had a hunch it should have slipped out of my finger when I was having snacks. On 02.07.2024 I went to the restaurant by around 10.30 in the morning. I met a Manager who politely listened to what I had to say. He asked me to wait in the lounge and called his owner. Mr. Rahim who then came down, politely requested me to wait for a few minutes. He then checked up with his staff and asked one them to take the ring out from a locker, in which it had been kept safely. All details of where and when the ring was found had been diligently recorded in a long book. After having confirmed that it was mine Mr. Rahim returned the ring with so much politeness
I was really astonished by the diligence and care with which the management and staff had recovered the ring and kept it so safe till the owner claimed it.
'Deivam manusha roopaya' says a Sanskrit phrase....meaning God sometimes comes in human forms.
That day Mr. Rahim, the Manager and staff member who recovered the ring all looked like God's to me
I earnestly thank Mr. Rahim, the hotel management and the staff for being so diligent in their work and for being such an example of human kindness
Thanks so much to all. Best wishes and blessings to the hotel and...
