Santosh Mitra Square, located in the heart of Kolkata, West Bengal, India, is a popular public square that holds significant historical and cultural importance. Also known as Wellington Square, it serves as a vibrant gathering place and a hub of various activities. Santosh Mitra Square offers a dynamic and lively atmosphere. The square is characterized by a central park, surrounded by tall trees, benches, and well-maintained pathways. The greenery and shaded areas provide a welcome respite from the city's hustle and bustle, making it a preferred spot for people to relax, unwind, and enjoy leisurely walks. The square's strategic location adds to its appeal. Situated in close proximity to major landmarks such as the Kolkata Municipal Corporation and the iconic Howrah Bridge, Santosh Mitra Square is easily accessible and serves as a convenient meeting point for locals and tourists alike. Its central location also means that it is well-connected to various modes of transportation, making it a popular choice for gatherings and events. Santosh Mitra Square is known for hosting cultural and community activities. The open space serves as a venue for concerts, fairs, and festivals, which attract people from all walks of life. The square's stage and amphitheater facilities enable the hosting of performances and cultural shows, adding vibrancy to the space. These events contribute to the square's popularity and provide opportunities for people to engage in cultural exchanges and celebrations. The square's maintenance and cleanliness are commendable. Regular cleaning efforts ensure that the park remains tidy and presentable. The presence of dustbins and waste management systems further supports the cleanliness initiatives. However, it is essential for visitors to also play their part in maintaining the cleanliness by disposing of trash responsibly. Santosh Mitra Square also boasts historical significance. The square was previously known as Wellington Square, named after Arthur Wellesley, the first Duke of Wellington. It has witnessed various historical events and political gatherings throughout Kolkata's history. The presence of statues and monuments adds to its historical charm and serves as a reminder of the city's past. However, the square's limited facilities can be considered a drawback. While it provides seating areas, there is a scope for improvement in terms of amenities such as drinking water facilities and restroom availability. Additional shaded areas and recreational facilities would enhance the overall experience for visitors, particularly during the hot summer months.

Santosh Mitra Park's Durga Puja pandal this year was a captivating spectacle, drawing inspiration from the iconic sphere of Las Vegas. The design was both innovative and visually striking, creating an immersive experience that captured the festive spirit. Upon entering the mandap, the refreshing air conditioning was a welcome surprise, providing a comfortable respite from the bustling crowd outside. The idol of Durga was elegantly crafted, embodying a simplicity that resonated deeply with traditional aesthetics while maintaining a contemporary touch. The overall atmosphere was one of reverence, enhanced by the thoughtful arrangement of lights and decorations that complemented the theme. However, the popularity of this pandal led to an overwhelming crowd, making navigation somewhat challenging. The energy was palpable, filled with excitement and admiration, but at times, it felt like the sheer number of visitors detracted from the experience of appreciating the artistry on display. Despite the crowds, Santosh Mitra Park managed to deliver a memorable experience with its imaginative theme and attention to detail. The combination of a cool interior, a beautiful idol, and a vibrant ambiance makes it a must-visit for anyone looking to immerse themselves in the festive spirit of Durga Puja. Overall, this pandal stands out as a remarkable example of creativity and tradition coexisting harmoniously.

The Santosh Mitra Square Durga Puja 2023 pandal at Lebutala Sealdah is one of the top 4 pandals in Kolkata. It is based on the theme of "Ayodhya Ram Mandir". We visited the pandal on the day of Shaptami. We got down near Sealdah station. There was a huge crowd. There was ample parking available for two wheelers and four wheelers. We had to wait in the line from 6 pm till 8 pm to reach the pandal. But it was worth the wait. The lights and theme of the pandal was a treat to the eyes 👀. It looked as beautiful as a Raj Mahal. It's a must visit during this season of Durga Puja. The Durga maa idol was very real and huge. May she bless all of us with love and happiness throughout the year. After the exit from the idol area there is a mela just outside the pandal where you can enjoy multiple rides. There are various street vendors offering food / snacks / ice-creams / paan / tea-coffee etc at higher than the normal price for the festive season. Overall the experience was very good and it took us almost 2 hrs to complete the entire visit from the entry to final exit. Since there will be a huge crowd so it's advisable to have patience for your turn and you can carry some small bottle of water.
