Patit Pawan Mandir is a situated in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra. The term 'Patit' in Marathi refers to the lowest, humblest man in the society. Pavan refers to purified, enlightened, and fulfilled. The temple took this name to refer the transformation of downtrodden to the pure form and restoring a worshipper's rights. It is a place where the untouchable, or Dalit, can worship their God. The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Lakshmi Narayan.

It was built by Shriman Bhagojisheth Keer in 1931.

A Hindi film by Sudhir Phadke on the life of Savarkar was shot in Ratnagiri and has scenes shot in Patit Pawan Mandir. This film was in fact the last film for which Babuji last sang and composed music.

Savarkar started celebrating Ganesh festival in Patit Pavan Mandir premises, even as the temple was being built. He renamed the festival “Akhil Hindu Ganeshotsav.” The activity was conducted with a clear view of eradicating the evil of untouchability, to ensure interaction among all classes of the Hindu religion and to rebuild a homogenous Hindu community. For the first seven years, from 1930 to 1937, this activity was carried out by Savakar through processions, fairs, various cultural programs as well as lectures...

Patit Pavan Mandir, located in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, is a serene and spiritually uplifting place with a rich historical significance. Conceptualized by Vinayak Savarkar, the temple stands as a symbol of cultural pride and inclusivity.

We visited the temple on a weekend in December around 12:15 pm, which is close to its closing time. However, the kind gesture of the caretaker, who allowed us to stay a bit longer, made our visit even cute. The peaceful ambiance and the spiritual energy of the place left us feeling truly blessed.

Adjacent to the temple is a museum dedicated to Veer Savarkar, which offers a glimpse into his life, ideology, and historical contributions. The museum charges a nominal entry fee of Rs. 20 for an adult, and it is well worth it. Visitors can explore various exhibits, including Savarkar's personal belongings, tools, and even defense items like knives and pistols. It's an educational and inspiring experience that sheds light...

Patit Pawan Mandir is a Hindu Temple in Ratnagiri, MAHARASHTRA, India. It was built by Shriman Bhagojisheth Keer in 1931. Patit in MARATHI refers to the lowest, humblest, downtrodden man in the society. Pawan becomes purified, enlightened, awakened and fulfilled. The temple took this name to refer which transforming the downtrodden to the pure form, restoring a Worshipper's rights as a human being. It aims to be a place where the untouchable, or Dalit, can perform the puja, worship their god as everyone else does. The entry of untouchables in a temple was unthinkable in the 1930s. If even the shadow of an untouchable fell on an upper caste man he would bathe again. Vinayak Damodar Savarkar saw this, thought that this was wrong and devoted a great part of his life to fight against it. When Shriman Bhagojisheth Keer established the Patit Pawan Mandir in Ratnagiri he created a storm in society. Must visit this place. It's make...

The most inspirational place where temple was opened for all cast by Sh. Bhagoji Sheth Keer who was inspired from Veer Sawarkar. An attempt to eliminate Castism/racism among Hindus in 1931 was a big event. Savarkar's organization of a "SAHABHOJAN" (Eat together) - people of different casts eating together was another revolutionary experiment in this temple about 1500 men of all casts had their lunch together sitting side by side on this occasion. This was followed by women's ''SAHABHOJAN' under the leadership of Mrs. Bagal from Kolhapur. This was the great attempt which shook the nation & provocate people to get rid of cast. Salute to Swatantrya Veer Sawarkar.
