Nestled on Ratnagiri-Bhagwati Mandir Road, near Mandavi Beach, the Ratnagiri Marine Fish Museum is a captivating portal to the wonders of marine life. A mere 2.5 km from the Ratnagiri Bus Stand and 9.5 km from the Railway Station, it's easily accessible by cab or auto.

Opening its doors from 10 AM to 5 PM daily (excluding Mondays and public holidays), the museum welcomes visitors with an affordable entry fee of Rs. 20 for adults and Rs. 10 for children. Boat ride is also available for Rs.20 per person per round.

For travelers, reaching Ratnagiri is a breeze, whether by road, rail, or air. The Mumbai airport serves as the nearest air hub, while the Ratnagiri railway station connects seamlessly with major cities through the Konkan Railway.

The heart of the museum lies in its marine aquarium, a mesmerizing display of rare creatures like sea horses, lion fish, sea turtles, and more. The 55-foot whale skeleton, a colossal 5000 kg specimen, adds grandeur to the experience, drawing fascinated onlookers.

The freshwater aquarium section introduces local gems like prawns, crabs, turtles, and aquatic plants. A boat ride on the nearby pond provides a unique perspective to observe aquatic life.

Established in 1985 by the Marine Biological Research Station of Ratnagiri, a part of the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute, the museum goes beyond mere spectacle. It serves as an educational hub, enlightening visitors about marine biodiversity and coastal ecosystem conservation. The institute's ongoing research in marine biology and fisheries further underscores the museum's significance.

In essence, the Ratnagiri Marine Fish Museum is a must-visit for nature enthusiasts and curious minds eager to delve into the secrets of the Konkan coast's rich marine life. It seamlessly combines education with awe-inspiring exhibits, making it a standout tourist destination...

It was definitely an amazing experience and I would highly recommend to visit soon, although they have not maintained their marine tanks very well as well as their habitats for certain freshwater species. They have enclosed a big sea turtle in a very small and confined space, and he should be released back into the ocean where he actually belongs. I visited the aquarium yesterday and saw that the lion fish was barely alive and was gasping to even breathe air. The lion fish should be provided with a bigger tank. Even their betta fish they haven't provided the proper habitat required by the fish, the tank size is correct although betta fish need heavily planted aquariums and a heater to maintain the water temperature. Betta fish are tropical fish and should not be kept confined in small bowls! I even saw an alligator gaur that you had in a huge tub behind not sure if it was kept their for treatment but that is another fish that requires a large tank space size and should either be transported to a place with an appropriate tank size or be released back into its natural habitat. Even the discus fish habitat wasn't maintained properly. Discus fish need a habitat in which tall plants are present! This aquarium exhibit has so much opportunity, as it is open to the public of ratnagiri and the tourists who come to visit. It is a great learning experience for younger generations as well the adults. Only 7% of our oceans have been discovered and you have the chance to display 0.00000001% of it which is truly as amazing opportunity. I hope you look into these suggestions and also treat all your sick animals. They are also humans who have life and it's very easy to replace them with a new fish of the same species but it is also easy to maintain the same fish under proper water and...
