Shri Kshetra Baneshwar Guha Mandir – A Serene Divine Cave Temple in Baner, Pune

Tucked away in the hills of Baner Gaon, Baneshwar Guha Mandir (श्री क्षेत्र बाणेश्वर गुहा मंदिर) is a tranquil and spiritually uplifting temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, believed to be centuries old.

🛕 Temple Highlights:

Shivlinga resides deep inside a natural cave. A cool water streamconstantly flows inside the cave, adding calm and divinity to the air. You can see 800-year-old वीरगळ (Veergals), ancient hero stones preserved in glass – a glimpse into forgotten history. The peaceful surroundings greenery, and complete silence make it a perfect place for meditation and inner peace.

🌸 Special Experience Every Monday:

Unique Shivlinga Decoration: Every Monday, devotees beautifully decorate the Shivlinga with flowers, Bilva leaves, haldi-kumkum, and sometimes even thematic rangoli. The creativity and devotion is worth witnessing.

Evening Maha Aarti at 7:30 PM: A grand and vibrant aarti fills the cave with spiritual vibrations.

Bhajan Sandhya: Devotees gather and sing soulful bhajans and traditional kirtans till 10:00 PM.

Shayan Aarti: At the end of the night, a peaceful Shayan Aarti is performed.

🙏 My Personal Experience:

I visited regularly and was deeply moved by the spiritual vibe of this place. The moment you step down those 20-25 steps into the cave, it feels like entering a completely different world — one filled with peace and divinity.

⚠️ MPORTANT DRESS CODE NOTE:

The temple strictly follows dress code for all devotees:

👧 For Girls/Women:

❌ *One-piece dresses, shorts, and similar western outfits are not allowed.

👦 For Boys/Men:

❌ *Shorts and sleeveless shirts are not allowed.

🧦 No socks are allowed inside the temple premises, especially in the cave area.

🚗 Parking Information for Devotees

The temple has two main gates, each with different parking options:

Gate 1 – Limited Parking

🚫 Very limited vehicle parking available. 🚶‍♂️ Best option: Park nearby and prefer walking from Baner Gaon side to reach the temple.

Gate 2 – Ample Parking (Recommended)

Gate 2 has two convenient routes with free parking and easier temple access:

✅ Route 1: From PMC School (Backside)

🅿️ A large ground available for free parking. 🚶 After parking, walk uphill to reach the temple — scenic and peaceful.

✅ Route 2: From Pan Card Club Side

🅿️ Again, huge free parking space available. 🚶‍♂️ Easiest route — Temple is just 30–40 steps away from the...

The cave temple is located just a few metres up from the foot of Tukai Hill. Anyone wishing to climb Tukai Devi Mandir has to go past the entrance to this cave temple on their right The way to the cave is marked by a simple doorway, in the olden days it would have been a hidden place of worship with just a mast to mark the temple site.Folklore says that the Pandavas once lived in the Baneshwar cave temple during their exile almost 5,000 years ago. Alternative tales say that they were founded during the reign of Rashtrkut Raja some 2,500 years ago. We are of course unlikely to ever discover its true origins. This is considered a Svayambhu temple. The word 'Svayambhu' is derived from two Sanskrit words- 'Svayam' (794) which means 'self' or 'voluntarily' and 'bhu' (?) which means 'springing' or 'arising'. So the definition of the word is 'arising on its own'. Whilst in its original form it may well have been a natural cave, it has of course been subjected to a serious amount of alteration by the hands of humans. The cave contains a Shiva linga as well as a natural spring. Sudhir Kalamkar, the trustee of the temple, says that the entire cave does get flooded with water which they often have to pump out. It's a simple, small, but atmospheric interior - one certainly gets a sense that the cave is ancient and has been in use for many centuries. The Baneshwar cave temple is well worth a quick visit for anyone living or passing...

A Peaceful and Divine Experience! I recently visited Shri Baneshwar Mandir in Baner, and it was an absolutely beautiful experience. The temple is situated in a serene location, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, which makes it the perfect spot for some peaceful reflection and prayer. The atmosphere is incredibly calm, and the temple is maintained well, with its simple yet elegant architecture adding to its charm. The main deity, Lord Shiva, is worshipped here in the form of Baneshwar, and you can feel the divine energy as soon as you step inside. The rituals are conducted with great devotion, and it’s clear that the temple holds a special place in the hearts of the local community. The best time to visit is during Maha Shivaratri, when the temple comes alive with devotion and celebrations. But it’s equally serene to visit on regular days for some quiet moments of prayer. I highly recommend this temple to anyone in Pune who is seeking peace, spirituality, and a place to connect with Lord Shiva. Whether you're a local or a visitor, it's a must-visit! #ShriBaneshwarMandir #LordShiva #PuneTemples #DivineExperience #PeacefulPlace
