The concept of Auroville is an ideal township devoted to an experiment in human unity. The purpose of Auroville is to realise human unity – in diversity. Today Auroville is recognised as the first and only internationally endorsed ongoing experiment in human unity and transformation of consciousness, also concerned with - and practically researching into - sustainable living and the future cultural, environmental, social and spiritual needs of mankind. Auroville is one of the best places to visit. It is a beautiful township in the making. The place is outside the city area and is away from all the noise and nuisance of the busy cities. It is one of the most peaceful and serene places. The place is so beautiful and is open to the visitors to enjoy the beauty and witness the novelty in the making. At the centre of the township lies the Peace Area, comprising the Matrimandir and its gardens, the amphitheatre with the Urn of Human Unity that contains the soil of 121 nations and 23 Indian states, and the project of a lake to help create an atmosphere of calm and serenity and to serve as a groundwater recharge area. One of the best things i loved about the place was this big Windchime called 'Swaram' hanging from one big tree and produces a beautiful echoing soothing sound when wind hits it. Do watch the Video to get more insights. Auroville is an experimental Society where people from different cultures live together in harmony with some defined set of Principles and Rules. After the Information Center u need to take a Pass for the Visit to matrimandir. Shuttle service also will be there but trekking would be better because you have to go through the small jungle
Walk will be around 1 kms I guess towards Matri mandir. Very peaceful, through shaded vegetation. Enjoyed the walk. Carry water ,Cap/hats,and wear shoes to enjoy the walk.
There's a very old Banyan tree enroute,can spend some time around it. This Banyan tree is big really big and I have not seen that much Big Banyan tree in my life. Washrooms and Drinking water facilities are also available near the Matri Manthi. U can spend some time clicking photos of Matri Mantir and then return through a free Shuttle bus. Overall, it's just some walk and Matri mandir, nothing more. There is a shopping area, a bit expensive. A small food court also available but cost is very high.
