🌸✨ Poondhamalli Varadaraja Perumal Temple – A Serene Divine Abode ✨🌸 Located in the centre of the busy town of Poovrindavalli (now known as Poondhamalli) in Tiruvallur District, Tamil Nadu, this majestic and tranquil temple is dedicated to Lord Varadaraja Perumal 🙏 and his divine consort Goddess Pushpavalli Thayar 🌹.

🌷 The name Poovrindavalli itself blossoms from a divine story — Thayar Pushpavalli is believed to have incarnated from a flower (🌸poo), and hence the town was named Poovrindavalli. Over time, it beautifully transformed into what we now call Poondhamalli 🌼.

🌺 Another sacred legend elevates the spiritual aura of this temple 🌟. Thirukachchi Nambi, a great saint and devotee born in Poondhamalli, used to walk daily to Kanchipuram 🛕 to serve Lord Varadaraja Perumal by offering visiri service (fan waving) and handmade garlands from his own flower garden 🌻💐.

🌿 Even in his old age, his devotion never faded. Touched by his unwavering bhakti, Lord Varadaraja Perumal appeared right here in Poondhamalli to give darshan to Thirukachchi Nambi 🙌 — a divine gesture that makes this temple eternally sacred 🕉️✨.

🛕 Today, the temple is a quiet, spacious, and spiritually rich sanctuary for all devotees 🙏. The divine vibrations here offer peace, clarity, and a sense of deep connection with Lord Vishnu 🌟.You can see lots of Jasmine flower plants inside the temple.

💫 Whether you are a spiritual seeker, a devotee of Lord Vishnu ✨, or a lover of temple architecture and Tamil heritage, this temple is a must-visit!

Located 25kms from Madras on the Bangalore Highway is the 1100year old Varadaraja Perumal temple in Poonamallee. This place is also referred to as Pushpaporu Kshetram and Poovirantha Kshetram.

Construction The temple is believed to have been built in the 10th Century AD during the reign of the great Chozha King Paranthaka Chozha ( 907-954AD). Inscriptions dating back to this period refer to this place as Puliyur Kottam Poonthamallee and Nedunchezhiya Vinnagaram.

Story This is the avathara sthalam of Thirukachi Nambi, the Guru of Ramanuja. Thirukachi Nambi used to walk to Kanchipuram and present flowers in the morning to Lord Varadarajan. Given his special devotion , Lord Varadarajan would engage in conversations with Nambi.

Once when Nambi fell ill and could not walk to Kanchipuiram to present his flowers, Lord Varadarajan himself came here in the morning and provided darshan to Nambi with the Sun’s chakra behind him, a special feature at this temple.

Thirukachi Nambi also had darshan of Lord Ranganatha of Srirangam and Lord Srinivasa of Tirupathi at this place. Ranganatha is seen in a handsome sleeping posture with four hands.

This place came to known as 'Poovirintha mallee'after the Thaayar...

It is a very old temple in the premises of Poonamallee town. It is on the busy Mount to Poonamallee High Road and very close to the Poonamallee bus stand. It has a parking space for few cars and bikes. It has a rich heritage being associated with Thirukachi nambigal, who used to take flowers from here to Kanchipuram (Around 50 kilometers from Poonamallee) on a daily basis. Looking at his devotional service, Varadaraja Perumal of Kanchipuram gave darshan to him in this temple. Pushpavalli thaayar is the main deity and poovirundhavalli town is named after her. With time, it has changed to Poonamallee. It also has the rarity of Ranganathar of Srirangam and Srinivasa Perumal of Tirumala/Tirupati also gives darshan in this temple. It also has dedicated temples for Thirukachi Nambigal, Aandal and Aalavandhaar. It has a large prakaram along with many open spaces and flower park. It is extremely peaceful and calms your...

The beautiful temple situated a little away from the trunk road near Bus stand is facing west with a tall Rajagopuram. The moolavar Varadaraja Perumal is facing west and there is a shrine for Thirukachi Nambi adjacent to moolavar sannidhi. Garuda is facing Perumal and there are shrines for Ranganatha in reclining pose and Kannan facing Perumal. Thayar here is called Pushpavalli and has a separate shrine facing East. Beautiful temple and divine place 🙏🙏🙏 Very near to Poonamallee bus stand
