A not so special beach. It’s a small beach at the Kovalam spread where the govt tries to clean and provide all the basic amenities a beach should have. The concept is not in the place but in the people, people should not litter and take care of their actions, if they do any beach is Chennai will be as good as this one.
So what’s good about the beach: It has a clear beach sand for a decent stretch, maintained by govt. The water is somewhat clear because there is no pollution or sewage being mixed into the sea nearby. The waves are soft. People surf here and take photo shoots(wonder why they are paid) They have toilets and shower rooms They have govt controlled food stalls Paid parking. Decent walkways, some bins and some management that can take your feedback.
What’s not so good: It’s far from the city. If you go there on a weekend, your commute back to city will be traffic prone for sure. The beach can have more bins and staff who should make people not to litter. While the prices are nominal. There was nobody checking if you have tickets, so I suspect some will simply sneak in. More toilets and facilities to auto clean or staff who keep it more clean. While the toilets and shower room were okayish. They are no where near clean. The reason is people of course; but still something can be done. When I visited, these toilets were not paid ones, so maybe if they collect a fee they could keep it cleaner. The place has CCTV cams but it could do more for added safety. It is crowded during weekends especially from 3pm. If you’re going later don’t even think about it. Visit only on a weekday.
Overall the major change should come from the people who visit it. I’m writing this review so that someone anyone who reads it visit it with some basic responsibility to keep this beach or any beach clean, and do some basic thing like not to litter and piss only in the toilets. As some grown educated people too don’t care about these and spoil everything. Hope you enjoy this beach. It’s a one time visit after that visit your own nearby beach and do some effort to keep it clean, then every beach is a blue...

It truly lives up to its prestigious Blue Flag certification, which stands for international standards of cleanliness, safety, and eco-friendly practices.
From the moment you arrive, you’ll notice how organized everything is. The beach is fenced and has a designated entry point with a nominal ticket fee, which helps maintain crowd control and cleanliness. The sand is clean and well-groomed, and littering is strictly prohibited, which is a huge plus. Restrooms and changing rooms are clean and accessible, and there are lifeguards and security staff on duty, making it extremely safe for families and solo visitors.
What I personally loved was the peaceful environment — unlike other crowded beaches, this one offers a calm and serene vibe. You can take a relaxing walk along the shore, enjoy a quiet sunset, or even indulge in some light water activities under supervision. The waves are gentle, and the place feels less commercialized and more nature-focused.
There are shaded seating areas, eco-friendly dustbins, solar-powered lights, and even a small café nearby offering refreshments and snacks. Everything is thoughtfully maintained, giving a sense of pride and care towards preserving the environment.
