Their speciality for me is the Kovalam Curry. Basically a tangy onion-garlic curry with tamarind and a bit of spice that you can order with any seafood you want- I tried it with fish and prawns. The salty sea-food taste paired beautifully with this flavourful curry.

Pair it with their idiyappams, rice and parotta. I’m not a big fan of the Parotta though. It’s a bit on the drier side and I’ve had much better Parotta outside:

There aren’t too many good veg options, but their veg Kurma is amazing with idiyappam. Otherwise, the veg menu feels not worth it at all for the price. I tried a paneer starter from here which tasted terrible, overly spiced with chutney powder or something like that

But turn to seafood, the obvious speciality and this place is a banger. They serve full grills of whole fish, crabs, lobsters and prawns and also classic seafood dishes from Fish and Chips to Calamari. Both the Indian and foreign crowd that stay in this Taj will love the offerings.

It’s a Taj Restaurant so quite obviously it’s priced extremely high. But the food quality is definitely top class too so you can’t complain. The price also accounts for the amazing seaside ambience. The chef is also very hospitable and talked to us in the table.

We, a family of 5, went to this restaurant after making a reservation for lunch. We reached there at 1.15 pm. We were offered a table in a corner which seemed to be hastily conjured together with pillars blocking the view of the person sitting opposite even. On requesting we were given another table, and within a few minutes asked to move to a third table which was being frequented by crows.. We took this all in, gritted our teeth and and waited for someone to come to our table. Our only mistake all this time was to ask for a table change politely. 30 minutes into waiting, no one even approached our table to even offer water or something to drink. At 2 pm I went and asked the usher/ waiter if someone will eventually arrive to serve our table pointing out politely, that we have 2 kids who are waiting for atleast a glass of water. His nonchalant response was, "go back to your table, someone will be sent". Not convinced, when I asked him why there is a 40 min delay, he simply walked away! Now I am no celebrity to throw a tantrum there or in social media and I had a hungry family breathing down my neck. So I took my family to the nearby seagull restaurant in their hotel and had a typical buffet meal, paid 7000 bucks, and came back home. Don’t know where to start,the place is infested with mosquitoes that were attacking us throughout the night and poorly ventilated,both our drinks were made terribly wrong,the Bellini looked like red wine as opposed to it’s peachy colour and taste and the Mango Tango margarita was an entirely chaotic disaster, tasteless and put together terribly,the liquor used is cheap,I had a headache and a stomach upset after drinking one of these drinks 🤮The food was another disappointment,the panko calamari and the catch of the day which we were told was a red snapper were very subpar and disappointing.The ambience,food and drinks put us off soooooo much that we did not even dream of having dessert.One of us was nauseous just going through this experience.We wanted a nice quiet place to discuss and the experience was so terrible that we couldn’t even stand the place,let alone discuss anything.All in all,a HORRIBLY TERRIFYING experience for prices that are absolutely certainly not worth it.
