Sahastradhara Ropeway in Dehradun is an exceptionally popular tourist attraction that offers a mesmerizing experience amidst the natural beauty of the Himalayan foothills. The name "Sahastradhara" means "Thousand-fold spring," referring to the region’s stunning waterfalls and therapeutic sulphur springs that cascade over limestone formations. The ropeway enhances this experience by offering a unique aerial perspective of the area’s lush green mountains, flowing rivers, and the expansive Doon Valley.

The ropeway ride is approximately 103 minutes long and ascends to the top of a hill, where visitors are treated to a breathtaking 360-degree panoramic view of the surrounding landscape, including views of the valley, mountains, and the Baldi River below. The cable cars are built with stringent safety standards and provide a smooth, scenic journey, making it suitable for families, groups, and individual travelers. This accessibility and the stunning visuals make the Sahastradhara Ropeway an ideal getaway spot either for a short visit or part of a longer vacation in Dehradun.

At the ropeway's top station, visitors can enjoy various recreational activities such as rock climbing on artificial walls, disco dancing, shooting ranges, and several swings, which add a fun, adventurous dimension to the visit. There is also a multi-cuisine restaurant and a food court to enjoy refreshments or meals while soaking in the spectacular vistas. Nearby, visitors can explore a Sai Temple that adds a spiritual touch to the outing. The entire area is thoughtfully developed to blend natural beauty with amenities, offering a comfortable and memorable tourist experience.

Sahastradhara itself features a waterfall about 9 to 10 meters high, famous not only for its aesthetic appeal but also for its medicinal properties due to the sulphur content in the water. This water is locally believed to have healing effects for skin ailments and stomach diseases. The area is also known for caves and limestone stalactites which add to the mystique and natural charm of the locale.

Located about 15 kilometers from Dehradun city, Sahastradhara is easily reachable by road, rail, and air, with the nearest airport being Jolly Grant Airport around 25 kilometers away. The ropeway serves as a unique mode of transport to reach the hilltop, offering a serene journey above green landscapes and running rivers.

The ropeway operates from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM, with a ticket price around 200 INR per person for a return trip, making it an affordable yet enchanting experience. The best visiting time is generally from October to March for optimal weather conditions, though the waterfalls are especially stunning during the monsoon months of July...

Extremely Unsafe for Kids – Parents Beware! The overall ambience and aesthetic of this place may seem picture-perfect, and yes, you’ll get some stunning photos here. But don’t let that fool you – this is an extremely unsafe place for kids, especially if you’re planning to let them try any of the swings or rides. We paid for an activity called “Jumping Jack” for our kids (2 and 4 years old). Shockingly, there was no staff present to monitor or guide us, despite us paying for the service. I stood nearby, thinking everything was fine – until my 2-year-old fell hard onto the floor. We later realized the setup wasn’t even securely fastened. This could’ve ended in a serious injury – we were just lucky. The staff and management didn’t care at all. No apology, no responsibility taken. Instead, we were rudely told “You should’ve watched your kids more closely.” Unbelievable! We paid for the activity and expected at least minimal safety protocols and supervision. What we got was negligence and blame-shifting. To make matters worse, most of the other swings are placed dangerously close to the mountain edge. One small misstep or playful push and a child could fall right off. It’s clear the entire setup lacks basic safety measures and barriers that are essential when catering to families. I’m writing this to warn all parents: Please don’t be misled by the pretty pictures. This place is NOT safe for children. If you still choose to go, do so at your own risk

It's a small waterfall in the North - Northeast region of Dehradun. It is basically a flowing river where Government have made small pools so that people who use to visit there can take bath and enjoy in the pools. The main thing is that this pool is totally free of cost. One should not have to pay any charges for the pool. But still the local peoples charge for so many things ( like Lockers - Rs 40,50,70 / Tubes, for in case if you don't know how to swim - Rs 50,80,100,120 ). Now let me tell you about the most important point , about the safety. There is nothing available in the name of safety for the person. I have faced a problem when i had visited there. I can't swim and the guy who was the incharge of the pool told me that the pool is not so deep. One can stand easily. But as i entered the pool, at a point it was soo deep that my feets were not touching the ground and i start shrinking down in the pool. The incharge guy was continuously looking at me but he didn't came to save me. Anyhow approx after 40 secs of struggling under the water i could find some surface and stand on my own feet. That was really horrible for me. If you guys are visiting the place then please be alert and always take someone with you who knows how to swim. Please don't trust on any people over there. Anyway it's such a beautiful place to visit. Please visit there for atleast a time. But also be aware for your own safety. . . . JAI HIND 🇮🇳
