A Visit to the Church of St. Francis of Assisi, Dehradun, India May 29, 2025 - a Witness - Yesterday - my Nepali Grandson took me to the St Francis church here in Dehradun India. It is famous for its beautiful paintings of the Little Brother of the Poor. We arrived at about 3 pm expecting the church would be open. Instead of a beautiful visit to the Home of Brother Francis and the Master of Divine Love -- we found the building locked and security told us we could not contact the Priest and could not be allowed entry to pray. Two blocks from this church I saw a Man sleeping in the dirt of the street. We sat in front of the locked doors while the rain poured down around the Portico - I believe the angels were crying - - - while I sang Prayers of Peace to Brother Francis whose beautiful statue stood before me in the garden. At the gates was another beautiful statue of Jesus with his arms stretched wide -- welcome all who enter here - the experience was that noone was welcome - Since then I have tried to call the Priest - and there is no answer to my appeals. My young Buddhist friend - who is the clearest young spirit I have ever met and who takes care of me like his own Mother - was seriously appalled. I had to explain to him that this is exactly the way it is with the Church all over the world -- the doors are locked and the broken are refused solace in the heart of the Master who entreated us with this appeal - what you do for the least of your brothers and sisters so you do also for me. I also explained that this cold broken heartless experience was NOT a reflection of the reality of the Great Master of Love's way but a reflection of just how far humanity has gone to deny Him. ( The Buddhist Temples and Monasteries are all Open -- the Hindu Temples are Open - only the Church of the Master of Love coldly greets the world with doors and gardens barred. ) Over my many years serving God and seeking to live the Gospels purely - and follow the way of the Saints and Masters of all faiths - the most appalling breaches of human compassion have been experienced in the Catholic and Christian churches. This is not a denial of the truth of the Living Master and his teachings - it is a witness to how far so many of those who profess faith in Him have strayed from the practice of that faith. I will continue to pursue reaching the Pastoral arms of this Church through the Bishop of Lucknows offices. It is sad to have to do so -- and I wanted to weep for Christ the Beloved and the Little Saint of the poor and the broken so maligned by the behavior of the Institution of Faith that professes to honor them. Below are pictures of this experience - Peace be with all - may we pray the our hearts and our religious institutions reflect the face of God and not the face of hatred, abandonment, abuse, and cold indifference to the human heart.
I wrote a letter to the Bishop of Lucknow - and received no response. I wonder what people do who need the Sacraments since there seems to be NO Pastoral care available in Dehradun. This was posted on my very public facebook page -- and people wonder - does the spirit of Christ still live in this - the church of the Little Brother...
