Black Pepper has an old-world charm to it. Please do not go there expecting any green, scenic views or something, as it is located in Ashley Hall, a commercial area. You will be able to look at the shops on the other side of the street and the hustle and bustle of the urban setting generally while sitting in the restaurant. The restaurant itself is pleasant enough, neat and clean. Decor is simple and decent. The cloth napkins were spotless white! Rawat ji, the manager there, is a very friendly person who personally takes care of the guests on each table and ensures everyone is comfortable. My husband and I ordered fresh lime soda (sweet and salt mixed), which was refreshing. We then had the non veg snack platter, which was great! I will recommend it strongly to all non-veg lovers. The fired chicken in the platter, for example, was like KFC, but a little better in terms of flavour, more suited to the Indian palate, I would say. All the kebabs were good. And the platter was served sizzling hot! 🔥 The portion size was also nice. For the main course, we ordered butter chicken and naans (butter naan and garlic naan). The naans were amazing, crisp yet soft. The butter chicken was also quite good. Being a fan of butter chicken in Delhi, I always make the mistake of comparing butter chicken in Dehradun with Delhi, and it's never the same. I guess I should stop this comparison. Without any comparisons, the butter chicken at Black Pepper was definitely one of the best we have had at Dehradun. Apart from the good food, the service here is excellent. The waiters are literally willing to serve you, and not just leave the dishes on your table. As I already mentioned, Rawat ji was extremely hospitable. They were running a special offer for 'Valentine's week', and we got some lovely rose kulfi on the house after our meal! It had real rose petals in it and was tasty. It was really a very sweet gesture on the part of the restaurant! Another thing that I loved – they give finger bowls! It's such a relief after having an Indian meal! I would recommend this place not just for the food but for the feel-good experience, where the customers are treated with care and personalised attention. It is a pleasant change from impersonal eateries like Mc Donald's etc. Where the price point is concerned, it's definitely not cheap but it's not very expensive either; it's a middle-level price point, bordering on high, I would say. Our bill was for a little less than 1,900, for two people. This was without soup or...
Read moreThe experience was very bad! The food quality is not good enough. Hugely overpriced for the quality of food. The food was pretty bad! We ordered chilli garlic noodles and saucy chicken drums of heaven. The noodles was very dry yet oily. Lacked any flavour whatsoever! The saucy drums of heaven was soggy and wasn't tasty.
Now comes the real problem! As soon as we entered the manager started asking about us where we are from and general talks. We thought he was being nice but actually it was on the pretext of getting us to review on Zomato and Google! Such trick! Even before the food arrived he asked us to click photos and review. So very unprofessional! I have never faced something like this anywhere. Very classless and no sense of etiquette. He didn't stop there. He kept on pestering us in the middle of the meal time and again. This totally ruined our experience and we rushed to get out of there. In the end also he came again to give the review so I guess he got what he wanted but definitely not he was expecting.
Be careful with the Service Charge as they include it without asking and when you are talking and all you might miss it and they will charge you more. I asked to remove it. Another thing is I asked to remove the mineral water in the beginning itself and asked for normal Ro water. But when the bill arrived they included the mineral water which again I asked to remove.
The ambience is pretty chaotic. The service people are not that adept in serving.
Never going back to this place. I generally don't give reviews unless it's something really pleasant or unpleasant. But I had to do to so that nobody else goes through this after reading my review. Thank you for the patience of reading it.
P.S: Horrible...

I recently had the opportunity to dine at the Black Pepper Restaurant in Surat, and I was very impressed with the food and service. The menu is extensive, with something to please everyone. I started with the chicken tikka masala, which was perfectly cooked and flavorful. For my main course, I had the lamb vindaloo, which was also very good. The lamb was tender and the sauce was spicy but not overwhelming.
The service at Black Pepper Restaurant was excellent. Our waiter was very attentive and helpful, and he made sure that we had everything we needed. The restaurant was also very clean and well-maintained.
Overall, I had a very positive experience at Black Pepper Restaurant. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was pleasant. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a good Indian meal.
