Shrubbery Nightingale Park, nestled in the picturesque hill station of Darjeeling, is a serene public park offering visitors a tranquil escape amidst lush greenery and breathtaking views of the Eastern Himalayas, including the majestic Kanchenjunga range. Located approximately 2.5 kilometers from the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, the park is easily accessible and provides a perfect setting for relaxation and rejuvenation. Originally known as 'The Shrubbery,' the park served as the private courtyard of Sir Thomas Tartan's Bungalow during the British era. After being destroyed by a devastating earthquake in 1934, it was rebuilt and became a popular shooting location for Bollywood films in the 1950s and 60s. Following a period of neglect, the park underwent renovation and reopened to the public in 2011, featuring well-designed walkways, manicured lawns, and vibrant flowerbeds. Visitors can enjoy leisurely strolls along the pebbled pathways, lined with benches shaded by colorful canopies, providing ample spots to sit and soak in the serene ambiance. A prominent feature of the park is the large white statue of Lord Shiva, accompanied by a nearby temple, adding a spiritual touch to the surroundings. In the evenings, the park comes alive with cultural performances held on the open-air circular stage, offering a glimpse into the rich local traditions and arts. The park is open daily from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, with a nominal entry fee. For those interested in experiencing the cultural programs, it is advisable to visit around 4:00 PM. Whether you're seeking a peaceful retreat or an opportunity to immerse yourself in local culture, Shrubbery Nightingale Park is a must-visit destination in Darjeeling. The fresh mountain air and the tranquil environment create a perfect setting for unwinding. The highlight, of course, is the stunning panoramic view of Kanchenjunga, especially on a clear day. If you are a morning person, then you should definitely go and take a walk in this park. You would fall in love with the lush green garden and would consider yourself lucky to see the Majestic Mount Kanchenjunga. We have spent our childhood days here playing in this park. The name has just been recently changed since 2011. We have known this place for long as 'The Shrubbery Garden'. Well one can just do nothing, just sit and relax and enjoy the beauty around. It's ideal for relaxing and enjoying the superb views of the Kanchenjunga and the other snow peaks of Eastern Himalayas. There are shaded seating all around the boundary and there are many other benches that are placed inside the park. There are garden lamps installed all across the park that have white spherical tops. In the evening, all these along with many multicolored hidden lights are illuminated, and the park becomes a wonderland of lights and trees. On the right end of the park there is a giant statue of Lord Shiva with an associated temple. There is a water falls that comes from the top of the Lord Shiva's statue all the way to a small artificial lake at the bottom. A musical fountain here is also a great attraction. This place is located between Himalayan Mountaineering Institute ( HMI ) and Mall Road. If you are a tourist, I would recommend to take a walk from Chowrasta and enjoy the best walk of your life appreciating all the little things of life. Enjoy :)

At a distance of 2.5 km from Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, Shrubbery Nightingale Park is a beautiful public park situated at Richmond Hill area of Darjeeling in the state of West Bengal. Lies between Himalayan Mountaineering Institute and Chowrasta, it is one of the beautiful places to visit in Darjeeling.

Formerly known as 'The Shrubbery', this park was the private courtyard of Sir Thomas Tartan's Bungalow and a meeting place for English women during the British Raj. The park was destroyed during a devastating earthquake in the year 1934. It was rebuilt and began to be used as a famous Bollywood movie shooting spot during 1950's and 60's. However, with passing time the park was neglected due to the growing tension in Darjeeling hills.

It was opened for the public again in 2011 after re-designing of the park with walkways and sitting benches. The park is said to be in oval shape and is slightly at an elevated level. The park is adorned with pine and many other tall trees. It is an ideal place for relaxing and enjoying the picturesque views of snow peaks of Eastern Himalayas. There is a giant statue of Lord Shiva with an associated temple at the right end of the park. There is also a waterfall that comes from the top of the Lord Shiva's statue all the way to a small artificial lake at the bottom. A musical fountain here is also a great attraction.

There is a huge open circular stage at the middle of the park where the cultural functions take place in the evenings. For VIPs, there is a special glass covered lounge that overlooks the stage. The lounge is known as the Bullet Proof Dias. Subash Ghising, the erstwhile chairman of the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council created this special lounge which is actually covered with bullet proof...

Nightingale Park is a serene haven for nature lovers and those seeking a peaceful retreat. The well-maintained gardens are a testament to the region's lush greenery, and the carefully manicured lawns provide a perfect spot for a leisurely stroll or a family picnic. The park's name is fitting, as it truly comes alive with the songs of numerous birds, creating a harmonious ambiance.

What sets Nightingale Park apart is its strategic location, providing panoramic views of the Kanchenjunga mountain range. Sunrise and sunset are particularly magical here, with the snow-capped peaks glowing in golden hues. It's a photographer's paradise, and capturing the mesmerizing vistas is a must.

The park's infrastructure is also noteworthy. Well-placed benches and seating areas allow visitors to relax and absorb the natural beauty. There's even a musical fountain that adds a touch of enchantment to the evenings. It's an ideal place for couples to share a romantic moment or for families to enjoy quality time together.
