It is the heart of Mirik. There is an 80 ft (24 m) long footbridge over the lake. You can boat in the lake or take a horse ride around the lake. You can also visit the Debisthan, a temple located on a hillock near the Sumendu Lake at Mirik and the Mirik Church. Marik lake is very good location which passed through Nepal border we can go Nepal market. We should show our identity card while entering Nepal border. In this route so many tea gardens we can see. We can also purchase fresh tree garden leaves. There is also we meet many Nepal borders in this route. This place is well-decorated and famous for the lake called Mirik. You'll get facilities like pay and use toilet, hotel, restaurant or small souvenir shops here. Still, I somehow fell it would have been nicer if such a place could be any less crowded. Mirik Lake, popularly known as the Samendu Lake, is located at a distance of around 2 km from Mirik. The lake is around 1.25 km long and is surrounded by chestnut, oak and maple trees. Boating and horse riding can be enjoyed here. This is nearly a 4-hour journey from Darjeeling city. But you won't get bored because of the scenic beauty it has to offer. You'll get small destinations on the way like tea-gardens or Pashupati Market if you want to make a quick visit. was surrounded by a garden in one side and full of tall pine trees on the other side. A foot bridge linked the both sides. We entered from the side of the pine trees. Very large Fern leaves were also seen there. Horse riding on that side and paddle boating on the lake was also available there. We came to the big garden on other side through the foot bridge. The park is also big and nice. The park is ill maintained. Light stand there but they have no lights ..Gate of the park is broken .. No maintenance done for the park ... Amidst of all that natural beauty is scenic... Different flowers blossomed there ... different colors of butterflies ... scenic beauty beside the Lake .. You can do paddle boating in the lake..This place is ideal for evening stroll or if you love boating. it was a beautiful place with tasty momo but had a horriable xperiance . plz dnt vist d place during rain one cnt even walk a single step so muddy nd so dirty a big nooooooooo . If one plan for Pasupati market in Mirik its just waste of 3 k approx as in pasupati one go to buy stuff der one get leather jacket wich is bit over price nd cosmatic wich are cheap but duplicate so if one to buy duplicate product one cn vist. so in short not worth going. one can try...

Sumendu Lake in Mirik is an absolute gem nestled amidst the serene hills of West Bengal. It offers a perfect escape from the chaos of city life, with its breathtaking natural beauty and tranquil ambiance. I visited during the winter season, and the cold weather added a magical charm to the experience.

Scenic Beauty (5/5):

The lake is surrounded by lush pine forests and rolling tea gardens, creating a postcard-perfect view. The floating mist over the water during the chilly morning hours was mesmerizing. The arched footbridge over the lake is not only iconic but also a great spot for photography. The reflections of the hills and trees on the still water make the place surreal.

Activities (4.5/5):

Visitors can enjoy a peaceful boat ride on the lake or take a leisurely stroll along the paved path encircling it. The horse-riding option around the lake was particularly enjoyable, especially in the crisp winter air. However, those planning to visit during colder months should dress warmly as the temperature can drop significantly, especially in the evenings.

Weather (5/5):

The winter chill was both refreshing and invigorating. While it was very cold, the weather added to the charm of the place, making it feel like a perfect hill station getaway. A hot cup of chai from the local stalls nearby was a welcome treat!

Accessibility and Facilities (4.5/5):

The lake is well-maintained and easily accessible. There are small cafes and shops nearby offering local snacks and souvenirs. Parking is convenient, but during peak seasons, it may get a bit crowded. Basic facilities like restrooms are available but could be better maintained.

Overall Experience:

Sumendu Lake is a must-visit if you’re in or around Mirik. The combination of serene waters, majestic hills, and chilly weather creates an unforgettable experience. Whether you’re seeking a romantic retreat, a family outing, or just a quiet place to connect with nature, this spot won’t disappoint.

Highly recommended for nature lovers, photographers, and anyone looking for a...

Close to Darjeeling, the quaint town of Mirik in West Bengal is perfect for a summer escape for an offbeat traveller. Nestled in the heart of rolling hills and a lake gleefully running through the town, Mirik has a charming ambiance. Like Darjeeling, Mirik is a favourite among the mountain loving people of India.

The most stunning attraction of the city is Sumendu Lake, especially if boating is one of your favourite activities. However, swimming is not recommended here. The arched bridge over the lake, the glimmering water, the rising peaks in the background and the Dhupi trees all around make this lake a peaceful haven for travellers. You can choose to sit in the garden perched at the eastern bank or even go horse-riding along the lake.

Arguably, the hills have the most beautiful churches. The one that you shouldn’t miss is the Don Bosco Church, a gorgeous Roman Catholic church with brilliant structural design. Interestingly, Don Bosco Church is located in such a strategic manner that it can be spotted from anywhere in the town.

Located at the highest point of Mirik, Bokar Monastery is a must visit if you want a full view of Mirik from an elevation. With the gilded statue of the Buddha at its heart, Bokar Monastery takes pride in being one of the most pretty Buddhist monasteries in India. There are a few sunrise and sunset points close to the monastery, that too afford gorgeous panoramic views of the town of Mirik.

If you go during the season when oranges bloom in the orchards, you’ll have the best experience of your life. Then there are the tea gardens that produce Darjeeling tea especially Thurbo, Soureni, Gopaldhara, Singbulli, Okayti and Phuguri located in and around Mirik. You must visit them on a trip here; or else head to Tingling View Point, if you wish to look at the tea gardens...
