Ample parking space Work in progress This ancient temple is believed to have been constructed by Chola kings. The historical name of this place is Thiruvalithayam but it is now known as Paadi. 1. This is one of the 276 Devara Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalams and 21st Shiva Sthalam in Thondai Nadu. 2. Lord Shiva in this temple is a Swayambumurthi (self-manifested). 3. This east facing temple has a 3-tiered main tower (Rajagopuram) and it has two corridors. 4. The Vimanam (roof tower) of the sanctum sanctorum has been constructed according to the Gaja Brishtam style of architecture. 5. This temple is famous as a Parihara Sthalam for Lord Guru (planet Jupiter). 6. As per the sthala puranam, there are eleven temples situated around this temple that adorn Thiruvlithayam like a garland. This makes Thiruvalidayam very auspicious. These eleven temples are โ Mylapore, Thiruvanmiyur, Thiruverkadu, Thiruvirkolam, Thiru Ilambayankottur, Thiruvooral, Thiruvalangadu, Thiruvenpakkam, Thirupachur, Thirumullaivoyal and Thiruvogtriyur. 7. The vimana (roof tower) of the sanctum sanctorum is designed in a special style of architecture called the Gaja Brishtam. This makes the vimanam look like the rear of an elephant (Gaja - elephant, brishtam - rear). 8. The sanctum sanctorum is in the form of a semi-circular tank (Akazhi in Tamil). Goddess Jagathambikai is facing south. From a single place, one is able to get dharisanam of both Lord Valleeswarar and the Goddess Jagathambikai. 9. Saint Arunagirinadhar has sang songs in praise of Lord Murugan of this temple in his revered Thirupugazh. 10. The pillars of this temple have beautiful reliefs depicting many gods from the Hindu mythology. These include carvings of Lords Natarajar, Murugan, Kothandaramar, Machavathara Moorthy and Koormavadhara Moorthy.

This is a very good Padal petra thiruthalam within Chennai in the likes of Sri Kabaleeswarar Sri Marundheeswarar eyc with which most people are familiar. The appreciable fact is even in Covid times of course in unlock period the temple administration staff follow guidelines and the devotees and Gurukkal are sincere and disciplined. The alankarams even on a non special day when I went was nice for Lord Shiva Jagadeeswari ambal and Gurubhagwan in the outer prakara. Maintenance was good with neatly laid pavements flower plants nicely organised giving a nandavanam look and popular padigamgal are written conspicuously for benefit of devotees while going round the outer prakara. There is a nice MahaVishnu Murthy with Tulsi garland in the place of Lingothbavar and there is also a small shrine where Hanuman was doing Puja for Shivlinga. Overall everyone visiting the temple would really be impressed and get peace and grace of the swami and ambal.

My first step into Paadal Petra sthalam in Tamilnadu. Lovely temple. From Mogiepper it took 19 mts to reach here. In a que you get to see Lord Shiva first. He has taken the form of Thiruvalleeshwarar here. Parvathi Devi is seen as Jagadambikai amma. Rounding you get to see Nayanmars. Unique fact of the temple is, you get to see Sri Hanuman worshipped Shivalingam, Bharadwaja Munnivar worshipped Lingam and Sri Chandran worshipped here. Coming out donโt forget to visit gramma Devadhai Sri Kodari Bhavani amma and Sri Sandhi Vinayagar. A lovely must visit temple with enough parking place, easy to locate and beauty of the place is presence of pigeons.
