"Spontaneously," I announced to my bewildered travel companions, "My blue blood is simply boiling in this tropical sun! I require royal stimulation, and I require it now!" (Okay, maybe I just said, "Let's check out that palace," but let's embellish for dramatic effect, shall we?)

So, off we trotted to the Kasepuhan Palace in Cirebon, ready to soak up some royal vibes. And let me tell you, this place delivers! From the moment we stepped through the gates, we were greeted by a tour guide who was basically a walking, talking history book – but, like, a really entertaining one. Imagine if your history teacher was also a fun humble guy. Wow, that's seldom to happen right? 😁

This palace isn't just a pretty face; it's got a backstory longer than a royal wedding guest list. Each nook and cranny whispers tales of sultans, spice trade, and architectural wizardry. You want philosophy? They've got it! Every wall, every courtyard, every doorknob has some deep symbolic meaning that will make you feel smarter just by listening. You know, even few of the trees there.

The Unique Architecture: Kasepuhan Palace blends Javanese, Islamic, Chinese, and even European influences. It's like a cultural melting pot, but in building form.

-The Sacred Objects: The palace houses several sacred heirlooms, including ancient weapons and mystical artifacts. You might even feel a tingle of royal energy (or maybe that's just the humidity).

Seriously though, the tour guide's explanations were so thorough, I felt like I was getting a PhD in Sultan Studies. I learned more about Cirebon than I ever thought possible. And the palace itself is remarkably well-preserved, considering it's seen more centuries than a really old tortoise.

In my humble, non-royal opinion, Kasepuhan Palace is the undisputed icon of Cirebon. It's like the city's crown jewel, only less sparkly and more historically significant. If you're ever in Cirebon, do yourself a favor and visit this place. Even if you're not a history buff, you'll walk away with some fascinating insights into the culture of a bygone era. And who knows, you might even discover your own inner knightship. Just try not to demand a royal decree for...

This is a place that really needs a tour guide for us to really appreciate the historical impact of the place. Without a tour guide you'll only see old building with good landscape. There are several entrances to the palace beside the official entrance with ticket box, because people who lives around it use the palace road as shortcuts, and the heirs and palace workers also live inside the palace parameters. So it's free to enter, in exchange in several buildings you need to pay to enter, 10 thousand IDR for miracles water wells to 35 thousand IDR for the antiques museum. There are several free places/people that asking for donation for keeping the place clean, it's voluntary, you can gives them small change or not at all. As for the history, the sultan has lineage from Prophet of Islam and the descendant of galuh kingdom. It is interesting though, that the one who banish the galuh kingdom and its people was the cirebon sultanate and banten sultanate. The galuh follower now known as the baduy tribe. Back to cirebon sultanate, it was divided into two line kanoman and kasepuhan. This one is from kasepuhan line. In the palace there are also a place for people to pay courses of the art of cirebon culture, like dancing and puppeteer. As for souvenir, if you can't haggle the price its not cheap, it is better if you buy similar kinds of souvenir in a batik market several kilometers from the palace. The good time to visit the palace is in islamic holiday, like in the birthday of the prophet or after...

Keraton Kasepuhan seems to be the better choice out of the two palaces in Cirebon because it's larger and older of the two. I chose the ticket with the access to all the areas which is 30k/person (domestic). Car parking is 10k. The entrance area needs to be cleaned, there's a lot of trash around and the ticket reader is out of service. The museum houses some artifacts, sadly it needs upkeep like painting the walls, fixing lights in exhibitions, and cleaning. The AI Lotus museum is not recommended, it's just a 15 minute AI video about the fight against the Dutch, and plays more like an action movie rather than a historic one. Going deeper, the back area is very poorly maintained. The restaurant has been abandoned for some time and the pools/lake are not maintained and used for fishing by the locals. I did not get a guide, and it seems it would have been a much better experience with one, so I highly recommend getting a guide. This place definitely has massive potential, and if it's fixed could be an instant recommendation if you're in Cirebon, and even an international level tourist destination. However as of now it's okay, not too bad not too good.
