Recommended 100%. This place is a true gem compared to the other Tegallalang rice terraces’ more commercialized establishment. It’s the simplest but most authentic experience you’ll get.
To find this place, you have to enter thru a restaurant, Tis Cafe. We also got a bit confused at the beginning but the staff told us to use the small path downward on the left side of the restaurant entrance. A small adventure begins with a walk down, passing a small bridge and finally up the rice paddies. Just a heads up although we didn’t ask to be confirmed, however we didn’t notice, there might be no toilets once you reach there.
We came early morning when the place was still quiet, the small hut was still closed however you are free to walk around the area. Afterwards we waited in the sitting area just above the rice paddy. Moments later we were welcomed by Mrs. Made (the owner) together with her cute cat Cathy. She such a lovely person to converse with. She offered us some drinks for sale and we chose the fresh coconut.
We stayed for a while, enjoyed the peace and great view of the rice terraces. She then told us she has a small version of swing we take pictures with. Which we gladly did! Since we skipped the overhyped instagramable tourist swings around the area.
This visit was really worth-it for us, we love to experience a local simple and genuine Balinese lifestyle.
You are not required to pay anything, it is optional to give a donation no matter how big or small she really appreciates every visitors in her property.
Please support these type of local Balinese livelihood. We would love to come...

One of the more authentic rice terraces, no tourists, queues, paid swings, or photo spots every few meters, just nature and endless panorama.
Entry is free, there’s a donation box for the maintenance of the rice field, several paths and tracks that you can explore and get lost in.
The entrance to this field is right where the yellow sign with the crooked arrow is on the Main Street: take the stairs, and after about a 100m long trek through the jungle, bushes and mud you arrive to the actual terraces.
Went there around 12pm, and met about 2 other tourists. It’s much less commercialized and popular, way more authentic than the others in the area. A lot of resting spots with benches, huts, and hammocks.
I also met a nice local man in the very back on the right side of the field, taking care of his own garden with swings and photo spots, just like the ones at other rice terraces, except with a much better view, donation pricing, and literally no people.
Thanks to the endless amount of paths, I managed to find one that led straight to the other rice terraces nearby, and spent at least two hours just wandering through lush greenery. Just go and take random turns and paths, they all lead to even better spots.
I highly recommend for those who are looking for an authentic experience, and are more interested in the terraces rather than insta-worthy artificial...

The Mapu Rice Terraces are, without a doubt, the most beautiful and tranquil terraces we visited in the Tegallalang area. After breakfast at Tis Cafe, we followed a small path that leads directly from the café into the terraces – an easy and scenic walk that opens up to breathtaking views 🌿☕🌾.
We came by scooter, and the ride alone was already lovely – but the rice fields themselves were the real highlight. Lush, terraced, and vibrant green, they offer an incredibly serene atmosphere, far away from the tourist crowds. You feel immersed in nature and local culture rather than a commercial attraction 🌞🧘♀️.
What truly made the experience special was the sweet and humble farmer who owns and cares for the land. He was so kind and welcoming, and it’s clear how much love and dedication he pours into maintaining these beautiful fields 🙏💚.
Please note: The farmer does not earn money from visitors just walking through – so it’s highly appreciated to leave a small donation to support his work and help preserve this natural wonder. It’s a small gesture that makes a big difference.
If you’re looking for a quiet, authentic experience that connects you with the real Bali – this is it. We left with full hearts and a deep appreciation for the land and the people who care for it.
An absolute must-visit – and one we’ll be thinking about long after...
