We spent three wonderful days at the Kayon Jungle. The view is fantastic, the resort is unique, the suites are luxurious and the staff is excellent. The Kayon Jungle Resort is located a bit hidden outside of Ubud, on a hill with a beautiful view over the tropical forest and the rice fields. In most areas of the resort, there aren’t any external walls, so you feel as if you were in a paradise in the middle of the jungle. We booked a Kayon Jungle Suite - definitely the right decision for us. The Suites are located on the upper floors of the resort and offer a fantastic view over the tropical greenery. The suites are very spacious, with a king-size bed and a lounge area with a sofa and table. On the small balcony, you can enjoy undisturbed relaxation, only listening to the jungle soundscape. The imposing bathroom is luxuriously designed; A rain shower with a fine wooden floor and a marble bathtub are located right next to a huge window, and a generous shelf with washbasins and various amenities make your daily night routine much easier. The room service is great as well, the rooms are always left sparkling clean. From the Kayon Jungle Suites, you can use the elevator, so you have direct access to the restaurants and pools. If you have ever dreamed of swimming in an infinity pool in the middle of a lush tropical forest, the Kayon Jungle is your place to be. Three turquoise infinity pools, shaped like rice fields, spread over three different floors. In cooler weather, you can relax in the heated whirlpools right next to the pools. The top floor has a beach club atmosphere: There are several daybeds and comfortable cabanas, where you can enjoy delicious drinks from the Wanna Jungle bar listening to music, which sometimes is even played live. There is always something going on here! If you prefer it quieter, you can relax on the sun chairs on the two lower floors. Unfortunately, this unique pool area also attracts many day guests from outside the hotel. As a hotel guest, it is quite difficult to get a cabana or daybed and the top floor of the pool area is always a bit overcrowded. We unfortunately only managed to get a spot there once because guests from outside the hotel occupied the place all the time. Here it would be nice if in-house guests had priority. Otherwise, the pool and bar area is excellent. Another must-see of the resort is its fantastic restaurant: the Kepitu Restaurant. Here, too, you can sit outside on the terrace and enjoy the view. Breakfast is a la carte, but you have a huge selection of different delicacies. Just the bread with the watermelon jam is a treat! With our booking, we had included the Afternoon High Tea in addition to breakfast. This made our stay at the resort even sweeter: Between 3-4.30 pm we were served delicious appetizers. Tea and coffee could be ordered free of charge. There is regular entertainment during dinner. We were allowed to experience live music, a fire show, and Balinese dance. The food is quite expensive compared to the Ubud area but is of high quality. Another highlight for us was the candlelight dinner. The decoration was beautiful, the food delicious and the service unbeatable. The quality/price ratio was right here! The Serayu Spa is beautifully designed and the treatments are refreshing and recharging. A 60-minute massage was included with our booking, which of course made us very happy. It's services like this that set the hotel apart from the others! For active guests, the hotel offers free activities. We enjoyed both the yoga classes with trainer Andi and the guided morning walk through the surrounding area. Those who want to visit the center of Ubud can do so at any time using the free shuttles. Last but not least - the staff! The staff at Kayon Jungle are truly fantastic. Everyone is extremely friendly and accommodating and goes over and beyond for their guests. A big thank you...
Read moreComing from New York, we were direct to Hong Kong and then to Denpasar and let me tell you - 25 hours of nonstop travel for 1 week of stay is ROUGH... Not to mention losing 12 hours from the States BUT the minute we arrived on the grounds of the Resort...all of that crazy melted away, despite our exhaustion. Even arriving at night, the Resort was incredible to take in all the details, not to mention waking up to the view we had no idea we had in the morning.. just WOW!
Transfers: Transportation can become very expensive. However, you can arrange a one-way private transport with the hotel for around $40 USD. Immigration and Customs took far longer than we expected, yet our transport waited outside for us for 2 hours with our name on a sign. He had incredible patience and we we were extremely grateful after the long journey. Book direct with the hotel!
The Room: Jungle View Villa. I've seen a lot of people on here commenting about how rooms higher up on the hill can see other pools from below, but let's be serious, are you really looking?!? When you see the view... You will KNOW no one will be looking at you. We are on the corner, Suite 804, and I can't express the seclusion and the most perfect location. The privacy. The tranquility. The view. We've been trying to understand how this isn't rated the "top room" but apparently it gets better from here. And did I mention that we have a butler? Yeah I didn't know either until I got here.
The Butler: DWIPA . Ask for him! Not only is he extremely attentive, but his English is amazing and he's so eager to learn more and is overly attentive and knowledgeable. Everyone here speaks basic English pretty well, so you won't have too much of a problem communicating, but Dwipa , aka Louie, has an amazing energy and our trip wouldn't have been the same without him. He answered all of our questions, gave us all of the local information, and made sure to suggest and set up all of our transfers as well as activities- above and beyond what we ever expected. I'm not sure if you can request Butler's, but you should try. You won't regret it.
The Grounds: I can't say enough about the views of this hotel. It's literally built around nature, and apparently after reading a little bit about the architect, it's built to mimic the rice fields. We happen to go to the coffee plantation across the valley where we can have a full view of the hotel and sure enough it's structure melts into the mountain side. We have a view of the volcano from breakfast on a clear morning. Yoga class is a sunny dream. The gym is top notch and there's endless pools to enjoy. One thing I might mention is it is built into the side of the mountain and the walkways are extremely steep. You can walk up them however they offer you to call a buggy at any time to transport you around the facility and they don't mind accommodating you.
The Staff: The staff here is overly attentive and refreshingly young. Everyone is very knowledgeable. As I mentioned before, English is very well spoken and we have called for room service for more meals this week then I think we ever have, and they've made sure to accommodate us each time within 30 minutes or so. I'm also a fish when it comes to drinking water, and they've made sure to increase my bottles of water in the room tenfold, as four bottles of water a day isn't going to do much for me. Don't be shy to ask!
Overall, take it from a person who is overly connected to technology...I loved every minute. Left my computer at home and just disconnected for a bit. Social Media has been turned off and I find myself wanting to learn more about local culture than anything else. Bali is a lesson, not a destination.
Our hearts are filled with gratitude. Special thanks to...
Read moreWOW, magical, special, unreal, and home are a few words we'd describe the Kayon. My wife and I came to Bali on our honeymoon and stayed at the Kayon and one other place during our visit. We stayed ten nights over Christmas. We booked it in May of 2019 and were unable to book a villa based on availability, but the Jungle Suite rooms and the overall resort looked amazing at a price that was difficult to pass on. I'm so glad we booked this place!
It didn't disappoint. From the warm greetings and "welcome to our home" as you come through the gate is just the start. As you come into the lobby across the walkway flanked by ponds, you are greeted with a magnificent view of the valley and the amazing three level pools down below. It truly feels like a dream. Everyone at this resort was amazing and they all try to get to know you and really treat you as family. I never remember the names of staff members at hotels, but this place made it hard not to with consistent amazing service by so many including Ari, Yuni, Wayon, Toni, Jun, Septi and so many more I hate to leave anyone out. I have to mention Koko and Pardi, the managers as going the extra mile too. Not only did they setup our room with a beautiful flower display on the bed and the tub, but they even came to us to let us know they had a Villa available and wanted to put us up in one for the tail end of our stay. They set that room up and made it just as special, including a bottle of sparkling wine to greet us (again). At every turn, they went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and getting the full Balinese experience. They offered to do anything they could to help make it even better.
The restaurants here offer a ton of locally inspired fare and some western dishes, but it was all good! We tried a lot of things on the menu, but frankly we didn't have enough time to try it all!
We took advantage of some of the excursions while we were there, and they really go all out to make it comfortable and fun for you. They even pack a special cooler full of refreshments with the drivers and the destinations are really fun!
We've been to over 15 countries together, and the Kayon truly made Bali a special place. Since it's over 30 hours to travel to Bali for us, we talked about it being a once in a lifetime trip, but the Kayon has us planning our next visit it was so good. This place will not disappoint for a romantic getaway. This place was designed for it. They have different activities everyday, and there's a ton of complimentary perks like afternoon tea, morning yoga, and tons of fun things throughout the week. It's big enough that you feel like you have a ton to do, but small enough, it feels like a boutique getaway. Fully booked, you still feel like you're at an exclusive place.
Book the Kayon, it will...
