Sam Poo Kong in Semarang offers an enriching cultural experience and a glimpse into history. The complex houses a temple that pays homage to the Chinese Muslim explorer Zheng He. Exploring the site is like stepping into the past, with ancient artifacts and relics displayed in a museum.

Sam Poo Kong Temple is also known as Gedung Batu Temple due to its unique architectural style that resembles a cave more than a traditional temple.

The temple itself is charming and architecturally distinct, with its cave-like design, intricate woodwork, and stone carvings. The large statue of Admiral Zheng He adds to the historical atmosphere. The temple also has a small zoo and beautiful gardens to explore.

Visiting Sam Poo Kong Temple comes with an entrance fee, which is currently priced at 20,000 for adults and 15,000 for children. While these fees provide access to the temple grounds, it's important to note that there is additional costs if you plan to engage in religious activities such as praying in the temple, this additional cost is bit bothersome for us.

While this fee may be unexpected, it's important to remember that these contributions often go towards the maintenance and preservation of the temple and its religious artifacts. It's a way to support the temple's continued existence and cultural significance. However, understanding the costs involved in advance can help you plan your visit more effectively and avoid any surprises.

Useful Tips: Wear modest clothing out of respect for the religious significance of the temple. Exploring the temple grounds can be tiring, so bring comfortable walking shoes. Visit in the early morning or late afternoon for milder weather, as Semarang can get very hot during the day. Try the local snacks and refreshments available in the vicinity. Engage with the friendly staff and locals who often have interesting stories and insights to share about the temple. Purchase small wood board to write your pray/hope and hang it at Wall of Hope that located near...

Sam Poo Kong Ancient Building Temple (meaning "Sam Poo cave") is the former stopover and first landing place for a Muslim Chinese admiral named Zheng He a.k.a Cheng Ho, who is also known as Sam Poo. located in southwest of Semarang City.

The core building of this pagoda is a stone cave and is the main place of this location. Inside, visitors can see a statue which is believed to be the statue of Sam Po Tay Djien.

In this building we will find unique things that are rarely found in other Chinese temples. A stone cave in which there is a Sam Po altar filled with burning candles. Since Zheng He is a figure who came from mainland China, the pagoda that is now standing is used as a place of worship and fortune-seeking activities as are the traditions that are usually carried out by people of Chinese descent to this day.

At the location of Sam Po Kong Temple, you can also find altars and tombs of Admiral Zheng He's confidants, which are often visited by visitors for pilgrimages. The naming of the building/building is quite unique considering that the naming is based on the object that came...
