Absolutely fantastic place to go to for Phoenix Park stops right outside it. There is also some parking here. It is FREE to visit here!!!! It tells the history of the Phoenix Park. Children will love the exhibits. Some are just tractive. It is only small but packs a HUGE amount in it. Also the fact that it is beside the children's playground and an AMAZING coffee shop is such a bonus. The food in the coffee shop is second to none. They have fantastic seasonal food. Some of which is grown in their own walled garden. You can also visit this. There are several coffee vans for the discerning coffee drinker. There is nothing nicer than to have some gorgeous salad and quiche in the court yard. Visit the Ashtown castle. Tickets for which are available,.... yes you guessed it... the visitor centre. The castle.is right next to it. It is also free!!! My children love running amd hiding in and around the pine trees here and around the small hedges. Which i learnt depict the floor plan of rooms that were once part of the castle. The pines are a unique shape where the branches bow upwards and the foliage is down to the ground. They make very good hiding places and dens for kids. There are several picnic benches. But maybe just throw a blanket onto the back of your bike and lazy away a sunny afternoon here. It is dog friendly once they are on the lead near the actual centre. Dogs are not allowed into the actual building but you can have you lunch with them beside you in the courtyard and I am nearly sure they have bowls for water for them. There are also public...
Read moreIt was a nice sunny day. The courtyard was beautifully laid out, even after a very busy lunchtime. A breeze came from somewhere. After a short while, I had to leave my friends. Two cars full of people whom I had not seen in a very long time. OK, I have poor health and mobility issues. However, on this occasion, I actually started shivering. So, back to the car on my own. Here, I sweltered in the heat , which I was glad of. While walking through the serving did not detect indoor facilities. I am aware of the trend for outdoor eating. Trying to follow our Central European friends What a damp squid I am, CHOICE would be a great concept to be grabbed at. Please, someone take this up on a sliding scale? To start with. I have friends In Lyon and other cities. I assure you if there is the slightest breeze, etc, and they are ready for indoors. Over the years, I see residents women and men wearing the proverbial light black cardigan all year round. Lastly, now that this monstrous craze is unfolded around Ireland 🇮🇪 there will be diabolical consequences, mark my words. Oops, I was out for a hopefully nice interlude with friends. No, I didn't have a pleasant time. Unless I can be told there is an indoor space, I will never be back. And that is a shame for a property in State Lands. M.B.B Lastly, I am registered disabled . Trying to get across the cobbles was a...
Read moreAttended the tour of the Magazine Fort at 12 this afternoon, nearly 40 years since I first entered the gates of the Fort. The guide gave a great tour and explained about the history and particular locations within the Fort. The magazine Fort is a fraction of what it use to be, but the OPW have done a great job getting the place opened. Another gem for Dublin which should be turned into a museum showing what the fort was used for throughout the centuries. There are a lot of Historians within the Military Fraternity I'm sure would only be too glad to give advice and assist in getting the Magazine Fort back to its pristine condition. I enjoyed the tour immensely and I would like to thank the OPW for the great work that has been carried out. The tours are only on the Friday's & Sunday's but perhaps in the near future it could be opened for mid week tours. I hope to visit again a see the progress that is being done there. A moment in time, captured, saved and treasured. Keep up the great work...
