These are such important ruins that the entrance is closed with three locks! A fence with flesh-destroying spikes. The only thing missing is machine gunners and snipers.

Very close by is an electric water pump from the first half of the 20th century.

Terryland Castle (Irish: Caisleán Thír Oileáin) is a 13th-century historic castle located in Galway, Ireland, near the River Corrib. Built by the De Burgo (Burke) family, it was strategically important for controlling river traffic and protecting the city. It is sometimes referred to as the "Old Castle".

This is very neat. These castle ruins are set in a beautiful marshy area near the river. Although the ruins them selves or fenced off, they are pretty visible by foot. I didn’t see any parking available, so you may need to walk to get here (like I did). There are a couple of informational signs which tell you a little about the history of the place. It is a ruin next to the highway. You can't access it and there is basically nothing to do than taking fotos. BUT:

It is worth it. It's just a 25 minute walk from the city center. You have a great view on the river corrib and the country side. It still looks interesting although it is a ruin with no activities.

So in my opinion it is worth a visit. Just come here, take a few fotos and...
