A hidden oasis on the west side of Dublin is Watertown Park with the River Liffey gently gliding along its boundary. On arrival, take in the wonderful view of the magnificent trees across the Liffey valley, the 'clock' tower (really a water tower) at Farmleigh and the Strawberry Beds. Experience the massive height of the motorway bridge that carries the M50 over the river Liffey from down below. The park was once a hive of activity with many mills working the waters of the Liffey. Indeed, these lands go back far in time with links to the Crusades - the Knights Hospitallers where they built a church on adjoining land. Then, you can tear off walking on a variety of different paths. If you go off over to the end, you can go in under the motorway, imagine! I found that very intense. then there's a little wee trail going off in by the river that was very interesting. there was a fallen tree going across the river and the young wans were climbing across and I was petrified!
