Visiting the Michael Collins Museum was a very important experience. Ok this is not is birthplace (few km from here in the countryside) nor his real house in Clonality, but he surely spent his youth in a similar house on this square and this building still keeps forniture and outfit of that period. Through the 3floor of the house we learned a lot of Michael personal history and about the struggles of that period. I understand his choice about the agreement with England, but I'm convinced against. Look now after 100 years Ireland is still divided and the troubles caused a lot of problems and Irish deads starting from the civil war until this very last days! Michael died on an ambush few miles away from here on the road to Cork, he gave his life No matter how you consider it, a visit to this...

I did not book, there were six people in the very large house, I was told to come back at one thirty. Unfortunately I work for myself and I have to go back to work in the afternoon. I had my mask I informed the man I would be very careful of others but no it is a public institution and that was that. When I called on Tuesday a hand written sign said closed today but no mention of, if possible can you book a time. I will be back again but for now I will admire the picture of the big fella I took at the bridge, a perfect statue to our hero and as my ancestors came from here in 1828 we are probably related. Not happy today but in the words of a warrior from a far distant land I will be back. It is amazing how 15 minutes and a bit of writing can...

Having visited his birthplace the previous day, we decided to go to the Michael Collins House Museum to discover more about the life and death of “the big fella”. There was a wealth of information to be found within, displayed over three floors. The exhibition, which included a film show, was very interesting. And if, at the end of the tour, you wanted to know more about the turbulent history of Ireland, especially during the early decades of the 20th century, then there is a good selection of books for sale...

For anyone who is interested in Irish History and the fight for independence then this museum is a must. It tells the story of the independence movement from Wolfetone through to the Irish Civil War, but first and foremost it tells the story of Michael Collins. A story that is presented in an engaging way giving the context of the time and place. As someone who studied this period of Irish History I found this museum one of the best I've been to.
