We stopped in at The Courtyard Bar when we arrived in Clonakilty late last evening, just to see if someone could give us directions to the “off the beaten path“ Airbnb we had booked or use their Wi-Fi to figure it out ourselves, as Google Maps was not working on our US cell phone service’s “international plan” (!!!) When we explained our situation, a lovely man at the bar (didn’t get his name) sensed our frustration, immediately invited us to have a seat, offered to get us a coffee, and helped us connect to their Wi-Fi. He then looked at the Airbnb information and asked several coworkers if they had any idea where it was located. No one recognized the place based on the info we had, but he offered that when he got off work in half an hour, he would be happy to punch the postcode into his GPS and lead us to it. At that point, we were exhausted, jetlagged, and frustrated after a very long day of driving from Dublin airport down the coast to Clonakilty without GPS. After looking again at the info from the Airbnb host, we decided to try one more time to find it ourselves and, fortunately, succeeded. Today, we went back to The Courtyard Bar for lunch, hoping to see the lovely guy who had been so helpful and thank him again. He wasn’t there, but just wanted to post this positive review to say how incredibly friendly and helpful he was. Also had a very nice lunch – good food, friendly welcoming atmosphere, and incredibly thoughtful and...
Read moreWe had our Day 2 here after our wedding last month. Niamh could not have been more accommodating and kind! She reserved 95% of the pub for us to make sure we had enough space (the same night as the All Ireland Semi and the Brass Band Festival was in town so it was a big ask). She went out of her way to have the place looking amazing! We popped in 2 days before our event as we were in Clon and there was people everywhere cleaning/ hanging fresh flower baskets/ building a new outdoor bar/ painting etc. The place looked incredible! Niamh was happy for us to bring our own singer with his guitar too but also had one if we needed to. The mix between outdoor and indoor was perfect for everyone. She put us at such ease while planning everything and was on the end of the phone if I had any questions. We initially had said 100 people but on the day it was upward of 115. The BBQ was delicious and they had no problem catering for the extra people! The whole team were amazing on the night and really polite! Thanks so much to Niamh, the chef and the whole team! It was honestly the best Day 2 I could have asked for and so glad we picked the Courtyard for it! Gary and...
Read moreBeautiful, stylish looking bar slightly hidden as the name suggests if your not familiar with the town. Cheap pints available, think I was charged €4.70 for Fosters but tough drink that after three or four pints. Cup of coffee at €3.50 was a disappointing price by any standard. Pub was very busy for a football match that was on and the screen for that match was literally one of the biggest I've ever seen. Rugby was on a different TV around the corner and horse racing on TV at the bar counter so plenty of choice. The minute the football finished the crowd watching it disappeared which deflated the atmosphere in the pub in an extraordinary manner. It literally emptied which would certainly question the need for such a massive TV and reserving tables for people who leave en masse after two hours. The food is pretty standard fare and nothing to write home about but the breakfast does look good. Nice outside area for sitting in the sun or for...
