The actual villa is closed, at least for another year (now is July 2017), for restoration. You can have a look from the outside. As opposed to the other villa's nearby this was more of farm. Less luxury, more work.. You can actually see quite well how deep it lay underground, like Herculaneum, but unlike Pompeii. Next to the villa there is a small museum where they really made the most of a small collection. You get a nice booklet detailing the findings in a structured manner (the countryside, the mountain, food, gardens, etc). Around these themes the findings are displayed. Don't expect big things, but nevertheless it is interesting enough if you are nearby. Not all signs are in English though. Right now there was a small extra exhibition detailing a particular house in Pompeii (house of the Orchard, with details on how it was built, restored and the frescoes.). With some additional nice maquettes of Pompeii. Entrance is 5,50 which is a bit too much, but not if you combine it with Villa Di Poppea nearby and Stabia (2 villa's ). Al can be accessed with the same ticket within one day (but when I came to Stabia it was free anyway). Or you the 5 sites ticket (with Pompei and...
Read moreHonestly, the Villa is not at all superior to other villas in the archaeological site of Pompeii. The museum still has some exhibits found in the city, which you really don't see in Pompeii. For this I would have given 4 stars, but I gave 2, because we "ruined" the early departure home of the museum staff. We arrived at the museum right at 4 o'clock, when it's the last entrance, there were no other tourists, and they didn't like it, they started commenting and pressuring us from behind. We toured the museum and the villa quickly, in 25 minutes, even though the museum closed at 5. A bad experience, even though the guide presented the villa to...
Read moreBeautiful places, but you also need an integrated and convenient ticket for only the lesser-known sites such as Boscoreale, Oplontis, Vesuvian Villas. The tour around Villa Regina may take around 30 minutes and you can take the shuttle bus to the other places too, or enjoy walking and exploring the beautiful streets of Italy. On the internet it appears available but it is not true. You can buy the 3-day pass when entering the main site of Pompei. It is very convenient with the shuttle bus that takes you everywhere, to all the Villas as well even in Castellamare. Overall it will be a good 3day trip to explore the...
