Mura di Cittadella e Camminamento di Ronda — Attraction in Cittadella

This is sick. Random small town and all of a sudden you run into an old, very well preserved medieval wall, cars driving thru it and all and inside there's more town. There's a tiny part of the wall that's collapsed but overall it's very well preserved, and the area where it's collapsed is amazing because you take an elevated walkway right over nothing and see how high the wall actually is (if you don't like heights, you might not like this part but it's worth it regardless). Walk itself takes 1-2 hrs I'd say and the whole time you can literally see everything going on in Cittadella so there's definitely no secrets in this town. There is also a little museum at the start and at the end, both are small and cheap but still cool, especially if you like medieval stuff. Also they have a little map of the town at the gift shop for like 3 euros and it's sick. Get it it looks like something out of Game of Thrones. And don't forget there is also a moat surrounding the whole town which is really really cool. It's a step back in time...

We came upon Cittadella almost by accident when we were looking for somewhere to stay overnight in our motorhome on the way to Venice. We were able to sleep in the carpark right beside the walls. The next day we explored the walls and the town. We have been travelling around Europe for two years now and appreciate seeing something very different, like Cittadella. We was super impressed at how well preserved the walls and structure are and at how tidy, clean and neat the buildings and gardens within the walls are. Walking along the 1.4km of the nearly circular defensive walls, the views back over the town and out over the surrounding hills are spectacular. Peering down into the moat you can see a lot of very big fish. The museums (included in the very reasonable 5E ticket price), are just OK and there are some interesting exhibits. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. A visit to Cittadella is well worth putting...

Stupende e tenute benissimo.. ottimo il lavoro di restauro. Unico camminamento di ronda interamente percorribile, circa 2km di percorso. Si parte e si arriva a porta Bassano e con 5€ di biglietto si percorre tutto il perimetro con la possibilità di visitare i musei e la terrazza panoramica. Se avete del tempo libero fate un giro a Cittadella. Nei periodi più caldi non solo si possono ammirare le mura e il paesaggio dall'alto ma anche dal basso con dei barchini ecosostenibili da provare. Cittadella e le sue mura sono state volute dai padovani nel 1220 per contrastare i Trevignani che avevano costruito la vicina Castelfranco Veneto (da vedere) nel 1195. Il Camminamento di Ronda è una passeggiata a 15 metri d'altezza sopra le mura di Cittadella. Era l'antico camminamento di guardia che serviva per difendere la città dall'alto in caso di attacchi nemici. Il recente restauro ha consentito la messa in sicurezza dell’antico Camminamento di Ronda, per permettere ai visitatori di ammirare la città da punti di vista inediti e privilegiati, un'esperienza unica di “Camminare nella storia”. Cittadella è l'unica in Europa ad avere una cinta muraria medievale, di forma ellittica con camminamento di ronda completamente percorribile. La passeggiata è lunga quasi due chilometri e all'interno del percorso sono visitabili le stanze di rievocazione e allestimento medievale nella Casa del Capitano. Inoltre all'interno della Torre di Malta si può visitare il Belvedere alto quasi trenta metri, il Museo dell'Assedio e il Museo Civico Archeologico. Dall'alto il paesaggio spazia sulla campagna circostante, si possono ammirare i Colli Euganei, i Monti Berici, la Pedemontana con le città murate di Marostica e Asolo, il Monte Grappa.
