Castello Bonoris — Attraction in Montichiari

I have a very mixed feelings about the experience we had. On one hand it is a very nice place to visit - the garden in front and at the back is very well curated, full of greens and plants. The castle itself is beautiful with illustrations on the walls, arches, windows, amazing ceilings in every room. BUT there is no way you can walk there by yourself. There is a guide that is forced to give you a lot of information in a couple of minutes in every room. The guy was chattering all the info out and then heading to the next room. I know italian but even for me it was too fast - you either listen to the guide or watch carefully and in details whatever you see in the castle. I was making pictures as crazy just to be able to capture something to maybe later at home have a glance and understand what I actually saw.

Poor English speaking family that was with us in the group - they were given a few papers with english text right when the excursion started. There was NO WAY they could follow the text on paper and have a look around. It’s either this or that.

I am not sure why it was decided to have strictly 30 mins for such a rich in details place, where you could wonder around at least one hour even without a guide.

I’ve been to a lot of museums, castles and old houses, which might have been even smaller to walk in but people were free to explore everything themselves.

Cari viaggiatori... La storia narra che sul colle di San Pancrazio in Montichiari nell'anno 1000 circa fu realizzato un forte chiuso da alte mura posto a difesa della città e della popolazione. Dopo varie vicissitudini nel 1168 il tutto venne raso al suolo ed abbandonato. Alla fine del 1800 il comune cedette l'area alla ricca famiglia di banchieri Bresciana Di Gaetano Bonoris con la promessa che lo stesso avrebbe realizzato un Castello di stile medievale. Così Gaetano Bonoris fece realizzare la sua dimora riprendendo per la struttura esterna le sembianze del Castello medievale di Torino e per la parte interna le scale i soffitti a cassettone i decori ed altro copiati qua e la dai castelli della Val d'Aosta metà dei viaggi del Bonoris Il biglietto per la visita guidata costa euro 8 la visita dura 35 minuti.( nella norma) Il personale è GENTILE, PRECISO, e MOLTO PREPARATO, nessuna risposta o spiegazione è banale o imprecisa, molto carina la sorpresa finale dedicata ai bambini in visita. ( in otre 40 Castelli già visitati è la prima volta che vediamo tanta attenzione rivolta ai giovani visitatori ). Il Castello è tenuto molto bene è ci sono delle riproduzione fedeli di arredi medioevali realizzati come venivano fatti nel medioevo ( voluti dal Bonoris) Un grande complimento al comune di Montichiari che ne è proprietario e gestore, il parco è il giardino segreto interno sono tenuti alla grande. Molto bella la vista panoramica dalle feritoie del muro medievale in particolare quella sul duomo di Santa Maria Assunta ( che al più presto visiteremo con calma). Potrei scrivere tanto altro ancora, ma vi consiglio vivamente di andare di persona in questo luogo stupendo così scoprirete tra l'altro come Bonoris divenne Conte ed il suo legame con il Re Umberto 1°. E se lo dice...
