It was an incredible experience. I absolutely loved it. I don't remember her name but she was a wonderful guide. She was very passionate and knew a lot. It was amazing the amount of history inside this building. And so much more to still process. It is an unworthy feeling to touch the same rocks that Neanderthals work on. It's a very weird feeling to connect, for a moment, to the old humans that inhabited Europe so many years ago. And that tooth that moved the estimated arrival to Europe 5000 years blew my mind. And really want to thank the people that's making this museum possible. Special thanks to our guide....

The museum has a collection of finds from caves in Salento made by Neanderthals and Homo Sapiens. You can see tools, made many thousands years ago, with various techniques and can see how, for example, pottery becomes more and more refined and decorated with the passing of time.

It is clear that the staff who manage the museum are genuinely passionate about the subject, extremely competent, generous in giving information and answering questions.

Highly recommended, also for children who will surely be involved by the staff...

Il Museo della Preistoria di Nardò è un'importante testimonianza del ricco patrimonio archeologico del Salento. È un luogo di cultura e di conoscenza che offre ai visitatori l'opportunità di scoprire la storia della preistoria in un territorio unico e affascinante. Il museo è stato inaugurato nel 2006 e si trova nell'ex Convento di Sant'Antonio di Padova, un edificio storico del XVI secolo. L'allestimento museale è organizzato in sette sezioni che ripercorrono la storia della preistoria nel Salento, dal Paleolitico all'età del Bronzo. Ospita una collezione di reperti preistorici provenienti da tutto il territorio neritano, in particolare dal Parco Naturale Regionale di Porto Selvaggio e Palude del Capitano. Un merito speciale al personale del museo, persone appassionate e competenti, come la guida/archeologa Silvia, molto professionale la cui narrazione è molto coinvolgente per adulti e bambini. Il costo del biglietto è di sei euro, i bambini entrano gratis.
