Lido Re del Sole — Attraction in Taormina

Recommended by a local friend, we had a great day at the beach today. On a beach with an abundance of Lidos, it's hard to know which to go for. The beds and umbrellas are not fancy padded ones that you might get a couple of doors down at Tao Beach but here the same beach and same beautiful clear water costs you a fraction of the price. What sets Re del Sole apart is the restaurant. High quality, fresh ingredients at reasonable prices, it was striking to us how locals outnumbered tourists and many seemed to be well known regulars, a reliable sign of good food in my experience. We managed to book the day before for sunbeds on an August weekend amazingly but the restaurant is walk in only so you might have to wait 5-10 mins for a table. Service is authentic, Sicilian style from a family team. Might seem a bit hurried at times but relax, you're at the beach, they are really down to earth, friendly folk. We will be back. Best lunch we had in Taormina to date. Fresh barbecued fish, delicious pasta, mussels......

We went here our first day at Sicily and were solidly dissatisfied. First I was given a great table by a male waitress. Nice guy. Then came a very loud unpleasant lady yelling at me to leave. She messed with my belongings to get rid of me and wanted to place some vip princess at our table. I had to point out I was just offered the table by her college. She didn’t apologize! When time to order we wanted to start slow sharing a secondi as a starter and order mains after that. The loud lady started yelling that this is a restaurant, like we didn’t know, and tried to remove us once again. Baffled at her freakin rudeness we ordered 3 meals instantly, and she gruffly accepted. The calamari was completely tasteless and rubbery. The pasta dishes were lukewarm, and with the appetite destroyed we just paid to get out of there. Oh, and the beer was lukewarm too. Fortunately the rest of our restaurant experiences in Sicily have be the opposite, and...

The unforgettable atmosphere is created by the owners of this place. "Re del Sole" impressed me not only with the high quality of the dishes but also with the atmosphere. The beach setting creates a cozy and relaxing environment. The staff was friendly and attentive, making my visit even more enjoyable. The seafood was extraordinarily fresh. The lobster pasta was the most delicious I have ever tried.
