The largest mermaid sculpture in the world, created by artist Kanayi Kunhiraman, was constructed at no cost. Despite facing numerous criticisms and a temporary halt ordered by the District Collector during its construction, the statue was eventually completed with the support of former Chief Minister, K. Karunakaran. This monumental work stands as a testament to Kanayi Kunhiraman's artistic perseverance. However, the maintenance of the statue and its surroundings has been very poor. The park and lawn are in a neglected state. Local authorities need to address this issue.

The statue depicts a mermaid or Jalakanyaka, a mythical creature in Indian folklore, half-human and half-fish. It is made of concrete and was created by noted sculptor Kanayi Kunhiraman. It is admired for its intricate and detailed design, which captures the beauty and grace of the mythical creature!

Well designed park area around the iconic statue of trivandrum. Lot of grass area and seating arrangements to relax on a nice evening or night. There are a lot of waste bins around, but people still litter the whole place. The access to the beach was closed temporarily due to maintenance (Feb 2022)

It was created by award-winning sculptor Kanayi Kunhiraman on the beach in Thiruvananthapuram, close to the airport, in a park with other large sculptures. It is by far the largest mermaid statue I have encountered so far, and is probably Earth's largest mermaid sculpture.

As mentioned by Kanai Kunjiraman this statue is being ignored by the authorities and no proper care has been taken to keep the sanctity of this place. By placing a helicopter near to this statue they have shifted the entire attention from art to machine.
