Factory & Gallery of Traditional Textile 'Hakataori' — Attraction in Fukuoka

This was a great experience. It's pretty far from the center of town in a lovely area right near the water. The gallery was more of a store showcasing the items their factory makes. But their factory was absolutely fascinating. We got a private tour just by being there. We live in Oaxaca, MX surrounded by textile makers, traditional weavers of rugs, curtains, tablewear, etc. We've been and bought rugs in Istanbul and Morocco - I am obsessed with textile making and weaving. This was different than anything I'd seen before.

Unlike the traditional hand woven techniques I'm used to, their silk and polyester thread machines are all mechanized. They use thread the width of human hair, with wefts of 350 threads per 100cm. Mind boggling and fascinating. They specialize in damask making fabric for suits, dresses and branded accessories. It's absolutely worth making...
