Roadside Station Jomon Roman Minamikayabe is a fascinating historical destination that offers a deep dive into Hokkaido's ancient past, well before the influence of modern Japanese culture. While I didn't visit the museum, which showcases artifacts like bowls and figurines, it’s a great place to learn about the Jomon culture, especially the distinctive rope patterns that give the culture its name. The newly expanded site provides a hands-on experience where you can see how Jomon relics were discovered. There’s also an educational area where a knowledgeable instructor teaches excavation techniques, offering visitors a unique opportunity to learn about archaeology. In addition to the cultural insights, the location offers stunning views of both the ocean and surrounding mountains. Even if the station is closed, you can still collect the roadside station stamp.
