The Volcanic Steam Vent Area in Hakone was an amazing experience. You can smell the sulfur in the air and see the natural power of the earth right in front of you. Watching the steam rising from the vents is surreal, and it’s even more interesting when you notice the workers carefully tending to the area—you get a sense of how much effort goes into keeping this place safe and accessible for visitors.
It felt both otherworldly and educational—seeing the steam, the volcanic rock, and the process of maintaining the site gave us a deeper appreciation of Hakone’s history and geothermal activity.
