Kanagawa Prefectural Museum of Modern Art Hayama — Attraction in Hayama

A nice, relaxed, unfussy museum overlooking the sea. I saw the commemorative exhibit of Tetsugoro Yorozu, a painter active in the first decades of the 20th century and who died relatively young. It suffered a bit from over-completeness, but was not crowded at all even on a holiday weekend. The bus, however was another story. It's just 15-20 minutes on bus 12 from Zushi Station, but in prime beachgoing season both the bus and narrow seaside road are packed -- I mean, uncomfortably pressed up against strangers for 30 minutes packed. Small contemporary art museum in Hayama, Zushi. Entrance fee is around 1000 yen for students. They had a Francis Bacon show when I visited, the main collection has a lot of William Blake etchings that I've never seen before. The view is amazing! There is a path that goes to a viewery to look at the sea. I stopped by their cafe and had a beer and fried potatoes. They have an osusume of seafood curry for 2000 yen but it had meat in the dashi. I am giving this a one star because they were not open during a time where Google maps hours clearly say they are. The people in the cafe-which was open-explained they were closed until July 18 (it’s July5) and apparently they can’t update the Google map hours to reflect this. It is not hard to post accurate hours especially when you have long planned closures. Would have loved to...
