Hida no Takumi, the mighty carpenters of Japan! Their presence endure since more than 1300 years! Since the old days they helped the country building temples Shrines wealthy merchants houses specific tools and more! What makes they great is the fact that they can built buildings, structures with plane wood only, no screws no metal just "Interlocks". This great hard workers where committed especially during the Edo period to work all around Japan for 360 day a year! In exchange the city of Takayama where exempt from some taxes...Hida no Takumi are still active now days, so why don't you come with me and pay them a visit? Highly recommended museum with a lot of samples and english audio explanations, great place and oh, shoes off of course! Amico del solevante local guide in...

An interesting museum where one can learn about Hida’s majestic carpentry history. Set tickets at ¥800 can be bought, together with the nearby matsuri kaikan (recommended!). 🔨

Wooden blocks can be played with, audio sets can be borrowed, the third floor is tatami where one can rest while looking through the window with a nice view. 🌊
