Where do I start? I'm an Australian..... so when we go to a beach, we at least get to 'dip our feet'. We were fully clothed, + along with other Japanese tourists, we were shouted at by security with megaphones for dare approaching the water line. There is a strict no swimming rule on this beach.... for safety. Even though the beach looked calm and PG! We were fully clothed + clearly just wanting to get our feet wet + we were chased down + yelled at my old Japanese employees/security. Very strange. Very weird. Other Japanese tourists were also shocked by this strange + over handed ✋️ experience. So ..... visit this beach if you must... but know that the shore is hot + rocky (no sand) + you dare not approach the water without being yelled at! For the record, the water was flat, calm, not dangerous + we were fully clothed + clearly just wanting to dip our feet, as opposed to jumping in the so called dangerous waters for a swim. You can walk the concrete path along with the other sheep + take your photos of the water from afar. Don't bother visiting. Its not that beautiful (but yes I am from Australia and WE have the most beautiful beaches in the world without strange old men security at them shouting at everyone with megaphones!). Also avoid thr aquarium... Japanese zoos + aquariums do not hold the same standards as most of the word in terms of animal welfare. Its awful to see. My experience at this (fake) beach, reminds me of my travels to China years ago where you'd visit a park... pay for that privilege, + yet you were NOT to 'disturb' the grass. I.e. stay on the concrete path + do not connect with nature. If you love tourist shopping + over priced ice cream, this 'beach' (you're not allowed on) is perfect for you. The end. (From an Aussie who can swim +...

Katsurahama Park is located on the southern coast of Kochi Prefecture, Shikoku, Japan. Facing the Pacific Ocean, it is one of the most famous scenic spots in the area, featuring a stunning coastline, a long sandy beach, and pine groves—making it an ideal place for strolling, sightseeing, and experiencing historical atmosphere.

Although the waters of Katsurahama are crystal clear, swimming is prohibited due to strong currents. Still, standing on the beach and gazing out at the vast ocean while enjoying the sea breeze is a refreshing experience.

One of Katsurahama’s most iconic landmarks is the statue of Sakamoto Ryoma—a historical figure from the Bakumatsu period who played a key role in modernizing Japan. The 13-meter-high bronze statue faces the ocean, symbolizing his forward-looking vision for the future.

Inside the park is the Kochi Prefectural Sakamoto Ryoma Memorial Museum, showcasing his life, letters, and historical context—a must-visit for history enthusiasts.

Katsurahama Aquarium, located nearby, is perfect for families and children, featuring a variety of marine life and interactive exhibits.
