If you are interested in pottery at all this is a pilgrimage you have to make. Shoji Hamada was a world renowned potter who influenced the Mingei folk art movement and later was declared a national treasure. Here you can see the studio, and kick wheel Hamada used as well as the actual kiln. While here we met one of the care takers who's father worked along-side Hamada who remembers them actually firing up the kiln! The entire town of Mashiko is a delight and not to missed.

This is a must see to visit and experience. Take your time and enjoy the buildings, location, art work on display and the awesome vibe. Take time out to enjoy a cup of green tea that is available in one of the main buildings. Shoji Hamada is a legend. Closed on Mondays except for national holidays.
