If you are interested in pottery at all this is a pilgrimage you have to make. Shoji Hamada was a world renowned potter who influenced the Mingei folk art movement and later was declared a national treasure.

Here you can see the studio, and kick wheel Hamada used as well as the actual kiln. While here we met one of the care takers who's father worked along-side Hamada who remembers them actually firing up the kiln!
