Beautiful. Went there in early February when the snow has built up massively.

The snow makes for some beautiful scenes, though can also make the beautiful mountain views be completely hidden. I got lucky for a short 10 minute window where the snow cleared while I was at kappabashi, spectacular sight with the sheer mountain climbs you can see.

As for the journey in, it's a decently long walk, 2km tunnel each way to get to kamikochi and then some 4.5km each way along the river for kappabashi. So not too bad, or very tiring depending on your snow experience. I foolishly did not have snow shoes and am a very tall heavy man. Made for a very tough journey sinking in knee height and higher every step. Meanwhile everyone else was floating over the top with snow shoes 😅 So bring snow shoes friends, you'll need them.

Definitely visit the restaurant right at the mouth of the tunnel too, great for some warm food/drink when waiting for your bus home. Just make sure to have cash.

I will absolutely come back here for another season to walk perhaps the whole length...
