We visited Akame 48 Waterfalls during Golden Week as a family of five — with three young children aged 2, 5, and 7 — and had an absolutely fantastic experience. Despite it being a peak travel period, the atmosphere was still peaceful and enjoyable.
The weather was perfect, which made the entire hike even more memorable. The trail is well-maintained and surrounded by breathtaking nature, and we were able to complete the full walk to the last waterfall and back at a relaxed pace — even with little kids. The sounds of the river, the lush greenery, and the cool shade made it a comfortable and calming adventure.
One small inconvenience was the parking situation. The main parking lot is quite small, and we had to wait a little while for a spot to become available. Additionally, the lot was a short walk away from the main entrance. However, this turned out to be a nice bonus — we used the opportunity to stroll around the charming local town, which was a lovely experience in itself.
Overall, this was a wonderful family outing and we highly recommend Akame 48 Waterfalls for anyone traveling with children or looking to reconnect with nature. It’s a place where both adults and kids can enjoy the beauty of Japan’s forests and waterfalls in a safe and accessible...

The building is beautiful with a view of the river and informational posters (in Japanese). I was very impressed with the kindness of...
