Shindenan — Attraction in Nagasaki

Lovely and peaceful place to visit. Shindenan only opens twice a year for about 20 days each. Admission is 300yen and tea is 500yen. I’m glad it wasn’t crowded when I went yesterday. I think it’ll be more beautiful in the Fall but I’m sure there will be more...

It was not easily accessible as a tourist attraction (limited opening days every year) The closest paid parking spot is around 10 minute walk from Shindenan.

心田庵は、唐通事の何兆晋（がちょうしん）が現在の所在地である長崎片淵郷に創建した別荘である。何兆晋は、寛永5年（1628）に長崎に来た住宅唐人・何高材（がこうざい）の長男であり、万治元年（1658）唐小通事となった。父・高材とともに清水寺本堂の寄進を行ったことでも知られる。

当地は、長崎の茶道において重要視された由緒があり、天和2年（1682）紀年の『心田菴記』や、文化14年（1817）紀年の『心田菴図』など、当地に関わる資料も残されている。 心田庵は建物及び池泉（ちせん）回遊式の庭園からなり、建物を通じて庭園を眺めるという、景勝地の要素も有して...
